    I love this movie! I was 12 at the time so my parents didn't let me go skipping off to NY state for the shin-dig or anything. I have owned the VHS version of this movie, and the DVD version, but I like the Blu Ray. It has more acts including more Canned Heat - who - make me smile every time I see them! The New York freeway is closed man! Isn't that far out?!
    So many great acts and it's a kind of a pinnacle in social interaction, as short lived as it was - but a very groovy time to be sure. Like other reviewers I would appreciate it if the "cash grabbers" would just release the whole documentary movie with the acts in the correct order, with as much footage as they have archived. I promise I won't take the brown acid or at least not, like, a lot of it, at first anyway. I'm at the Holiday Inn in Middletown and dropping back to punt so yeah buy this thing. It's got a lot of groovy cats in it and chicks as well.

    I'm not a big fan of all the bands that took the stage at Woodstock ;I was seventeen and quite into the "Peace & Love" movement that it represented, a Historical event (that surely inspired Bob Geldoff to launch Live Aid), decades later) John Lennon and Yoko came to do their bed-in in Montreal
    and we were thrilled; for a compilation of the music and mood of that great era, I'm feeling generous and give it 5 stars because you get a lot , 4h44min of minutes, many of which had a good impact on some of us teens of the Sixties and Beatlemania. Koodos!

    I was only 10 years old when Woodstock happened. I didn't really understand the whole deal, but had older sibs who were into it. Growing up, their musical tastes influenced mine, so I eventually caught up to the whole Woodstock vibe. From start to finish, this DVD gives a good oversight of the whole event. It's great to see all the bands that were so big back in the day. A nostalgic trip for sure. Video quality is a little dated, but hey, that's what you got back then! If it was all Hi Def with 5.1 sound, etc., it just wouldn't look right. Nonetheless, still very easy to watch. Definitely an oldie goldie!

    Thomas Wolfe said it best in the title of a novel: "You Can't Go Home Again". I was not at Woodstock, but I did see this film soon after in a theater. I have to say that nearly, 50 years on, my second viewing of this film was a disappointment. Only three musical numbers excited me at all: Joan Baez singing "Joe Hill", Joe Cocker singing "With a Little Help From My Friends", and, of course, the divine rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" by Jimi Hendrix. On the other hand, at less than $10.00, this DVD was a bargain.

    This would be the definitive edition of Woodstock.
    Disc 1: The director's cut clocking in at a bit under 4 hours
    Disc 2: Various documentaries plus another 15 tracks clocking in at somewhere over 2.5 hours [just under 4 hours in the disc]
    Disc 3: Combines various extra concert tracks from bonuses and a few extras [just under 2 hours] plus another 35 minutes of short documentaries.
    If there are two things I wish they could change are:
    Disc 1 concert is in mostly standard definition [like]. You have a black border on all 4 sides of the image.
    Wish they would of merged the concert footage of discs 2 & 3 together instead of splitting them [but I think they kept the same disc 2 mastering and just added disc 3 for this release.
    Included are replicas of the 3 tickets [one for reach day] - which became useless as the festival was eventually free. Also included are replicas [but a bit small] of a magazine story as well as from various newspapers. Finally you have a patch.

    The WOODSTOCK: 3 DAYS OF PEACE & MUSIC DIRECTOR'S CUT (40TH ANNIVERSARY) DVD SET is worth buying even if you already have the older DVD Woodstock - 3 Days of Peace & Music (The Director's Cut).

    I think the transfer looks sharper and less grainy than the previous DVD release and this time the concert is split onto two DVDs instead of the double-sided one like before. The film looks really good and the only thing that gives away the fact that it wasn't filmed yesterday is the color palette.

    The DVD set comes in a collector's box with faux leather-suede fringe and an iron on "Woodstock" patch that you peel off the box. The DVDs are housed in 3 cardboard sleeves that are laminated on the sides that come in contact with the DVDs. I read that one reviewer found all of the DVDs were scratched on the playable sides, but luckily mine were fine.

    WOODSTOCK was a three-day concert featuring some of the hottest rock bands of that era (some that would become legendary from that concert) that took place in 1969 on a farm in Bethel, NY. It drew an estimated crowd of over 400,000 people of all races, ages, and classes. Even though so many things went wrong like not having enough food or water, or even proper bathroom or lodgings for the crowd, it was a peaceful event. Woodstock showed the world that music and people (mostly young) could come together and be with each other in peace, harmony and love, and really look out for one another.

    The film not only documents this happening beautifully, but it puts the viewer right in the middle of the action not only on stage but in the crowd, too. Truly worth seeing to know what the hype was all about.

    These two DVDs contain the director's cut of the documentary and a special featurette taking viewers on a tour of the Woodstock museum at Bethel Woods dedicated to preserving the Woodstock experience.

    Additional performances not seen in the film. The Grateful Dead must have been blitzed 'cause they jam for like 40-minutes on one song! I read about their legendary performances--where they go on for hours--but this time I got to witness it! There's also great additional footage of people arriving for the concert, the closing end of the festival, and a commercial for the art and music fair during this segment.

    This segment chronicles the making of the festival from concert to movie with interviews done in the present with people like director Michael Wadleigh and associate producer Dale Bell. Also included are some musicians, behind the scenes people, Martin Scorsese who was an assistant director/editor at the time, and the executive producer Michael Lang who was featured in the movie riding his motor bike to and fro, trying to get things off the ground.

    I really enjoyed these featurettes because they give you an inside view on all of the obstacles that went on behind the scenes of this fabled concert and how it all came together in the eleventh hour. The last segment is an excerpt from Playboy's show "After Dark" where Hugh Hefner interviews Wadleigh on that show. Hefner introduces the segment.

    LIFE MAGAZINE== miniature reproduction of the special edition of Life magazine of Woodstock. Cool mini-mag with pictures in color and b&w and article about the concert, etc.

    I'm glad I bought this set even though I had the DVD from 1994. I'll just sell that one. It's totally worth it for 60s fans, those who were there or who have parents or relatives who were there, or for any classic rock fan or fan of counter-culture.

    BTW, those who are looking for the footage that showed Yippie leader Abbie Hoffman getting booted off the stage during the Who's set, it isn't on here, but there is additional performances by the Who (We're Not Gonna Take It and My Generation).
