    I got introduced to this movie many years ago and have been obsessed with it ever since. All three of these action star actors playing drag queens was so amazing. This film was a head of its time.

    If you have no seen it yet, do it! It’s so funny and heartwarming. Cannot recommended it more than enough. Definitely one of my favourite films of all time.

Actors Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo are hilarious as three drag queens who are Hollywood bound only to wind up in the Midwestern town of Snydersville. The 'girls' liven things up by throwing a party and helping the townspeople 'loosen up.' Actresses Stockard Channing and Blythe Danner were great and I cried when Stockard Channing's character Carol Ann was in an abusive marriage and her husband Virgil hit her. Vida saves Carol Ann by punching Virgil! Yass! I love the ending of the movie when the townspeople were happy and that made me happy as well! I love the cameo appearances of RuPaul, Julie Newmar and Robin Williams who were great in the movie. REST IN POWER to Mr. Patrick Wayne Swayze (August 18, 1952-September 14, 2009) and Mr. Robin McLaurin Williams (July 21, 1951-August 11, 2014): 'You both may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten.'

    Je vous recommande ce film, une comédie légère et amusante. On y découvre tous le talent que possédait Patrick Swayze comme acteur. Ce trio de travestis est assez amusant, Wesley Snipes et John Leguizamo complètent ce trio. Malgré le nombre de fois que j’ai pu voir ce film qui est sorti en salle en 1994, car en 1994 je travaillais comme projectionniste dans un cinéma. J’avais quand même oublié en partie ce film. Alors ça été pour moi un plaisir de revoir ce film. Comme je vous l’ai mentionné plutôt ce film est sorti en salle en 1994 et sur VHS DVD en 1995 sous étiquette Universal Studios et ressorti toujours sur DVD et en format Blu-ray en 2007 toujours sous étiquette Universal Studio.

The one time it didn't just give me an error message, it treated it like a data disc with a bunch of folders, none of which I could click on to open. Really mad because I was looking forward to finally having the chance to sit down and watch it, only to have this happen and then find out the return window closed yesterday. What an absolute waste of money.

    De plus, ayant vu, ado, ce film inopinément,un soir, j'avais été très surpris d'y voir plusieurs éléments très loin de cette ligne de conduite bobo instrumentalisée issue de "La cage aux folles" (1978) , "Priscilla, folle du désert" (1994) ou récemment "Shortbus"(2006). D'ailleurs qui connait "My Beautiful Laundrette" (1985 - film proche d'un Gregg Araki) ?

    Voici 3 éléments d'"Extravagances" qui m'ont incité à acheter ce film:

    1. Un blanc, un noir et un mexicain (Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes et John Leguizamo) dans une comédie parlant honnêtement du fait d'être différent (gay ou non, drag-queen ou non, homme ou non,...) et de s'accepter, sans contraintes, face à son propre miroir pour pouvoir resplendir à tout moment et face à n'importe qui.

    2. Le moment où Patrick Swayze & Wesley Snipes parlent à John Leguizamo au sujet d'un jeune homme nommé Bobby Ray est criant de vérité. C'est le point fort de ce film grand public.

    3. Ce film aborde un sujet important sans jeu de mots douteux et grégaires: "Devenir homo à cause de sévices et être né homo".
    "Hedwig and The Angry Inch" (2001) m'a fait repenser à "Extravagances" par rapport à ce tabou.
    Bizarrement, on entend pas parler de ces films.D'ailleurs les rediffusions télé sont inexistantes.

    Ces 3 raisons me rendent très content de cet achat. C'est un film optimiste similaire à "Haunting Me" (2007 - Thaïlande) que je vous recommande aussi.

    I first watched this film at a friend's home, and enjoyed it so much I had to buy it. Now I watch it about once a week, just for the smile it still puts on my face.

    The story, about three drag queens crossing America in a car to take part in a beauty pageant, is clearly similar to Priscilla, Queen of The Desert, but in my opinion, is more "fun". It is a fairytale that shows lives and relationships from a different angle. There is comedy, but it does not take over as the ethos of the film, and the film can sometimes squeeze a tear, too. It also tackles domestic violence in a different, and strangely gratifying, way.

    All three of the main actors put in incredibly good performances. Wesley Snipes really abandoned himself in the spirit of his part as Noxeema - he makes a great drag queen, and looked awesome. Patrick Swayze seemed a little more uncomfortable as Vida, but gave his character warmth, and showed her as deeply human and vulnerable. But it was John Leguizamo as Chi Chi who was the biggest hit for me; Chi-Chi lived, she had depth, a sassy latin girl with a soft centre - I loved her.
