- Reviewed in Canada on April 25, 2020Verified PurchaseLove this game and I cannot recommend it enough for board game lovers. But be prepared- it’s complex to learn at first. It took a bit to figure out all the rules for us - as each character is so different. However after watching a YouTube video of a group playing, everything clicked and it has been so much fun to play. We’ve played it 7 times in 2 weeks as 2 players. Every character is so different it is a brand new and challenging game each time, playing it every other night neither of us is board. My BF isn’t even a board game fan and he’s the first to pull the game out right after supper asking if we can play. When you match up different characters against each other it’s a whole new world (pun intended). I can’t wait to play it as a group, excited just thinking about what a challenge 4 players would make it. Basically it’s like each player has 2 roles: one as the villain in their own story line, but equally as important is being the hero against your opponent in their story line (fate cards). So clever!!
The set is beautifully designed. It follows the story lines of the Disney movies so well which gets me pretty excited when we get to certain ‘scenes’. Takes about 45m - 60m to play as 2 and works great for two players. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos to get the concept as it’s really complicated at first but once you get the hang, Ive never played a game like it. Fantastic.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 7, 2025Verified PurchaseSuch an amazing game, so much fun to play. It did take a few games to get a handle on how to play. First game took over an hour to play, but every game after went quicker
- Reviewed in Canada on February 1, 2025Verified PurchaseThis game is so much fun and for any level of board gamer. It is a beautiful game top to bottom and a very fun concept.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 6, 2024Verified PurchaseThis game is a favourite amongst our friends and family. It's fun and relatable, easy to learn, but has high replayability value and you get better and better at it, as you play. The game is best suited for kids (and adults) who are able to play somewhat strategic games and who can deal with a bit of complexity. We play it frequently with family friends - we have multiple expansions of the game. The more people you have playing, the longer it can take (there's always the possibility of an early streak of luck for a player, but it's more common that you have multiple hours of gameplay once you get beyond 5 players). I bought a copy as a gift for my nieces and nephews - it was a bit over the level for 8/9 year olds (but they enjoyed the theme), while the 12 and 14 year old loved it. We find it is equally entertaining for adults, although not a party game - the rules are too complex for that. You have to have a dedicated bunch who are willing to learn the rules and strategies of the game.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 7, 2025Verified PurchaseLots of fun. The first time around takes a while to learn the characters you're playing. We only managed to get through 1 playthrough that evening after many mistakes. It's great fun once everyone gets the hang of it.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 9, 2022Verified PurchaseI first played this game at a game cafe shop and had so much fun that I had to buy it! It’s a great game and I love the characters. You can be a better player if you watch a YouTube tutorial for all the different characters play style but you can easily learn on the fly the first time around. Everything that came in the box looked perfect and well made. I put protective sleeves on all the cards to keep them nice.
Get it, it’s awesome!

- Reviewed in Canada on April 20, 2023Verified PurchaseThis is an awesome game for any Disney fan. It was fun to play, easy to learn, and didn’t take too long to setup and play. Great game to play wether you have a group of people playing or just 2. When we first bought it my wife and I opened it up and played against each other daily for a week straight.
Incredibly fun, would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Villainous: It is truly good to be bad.
Verified PurchaseIf you’re a fan of Disney’s animated works, you need this game. Up front, I will say that there IS a learning curve to this, and set-up is definitely more intensive than you’re average round of Monopoly or Uno. There are several components for each player’s area that need to be set up. That being said, the instructions do a good job of explaining the flow of the game, and there is even a link to a helpful YouTube video that does a fantastic visual set-up and demo of the game. The game itself is very fun once you get into the flow of it, and discovering new strategies for your villains depending on what others you’re facing is addictive.
Replay value is incredibly high, as each villain in the box has a different objective they must meet to win, and different cards and strategies to help in their quest. The cards and game boards all feature illustrated renditions of actual stills from the animated movies these villains originated in, and are gorgeous to look at. The player pieces are also very cool, colorful and slightly more abstract representations of the villains.
The game currently has three expansions, each of which adds three more villains with their own unique cards and strategies, as well as extra power tokens and any unique pieces each villain needs. Having 15 villains to choose from is fantastic and drastically increases replay value even more, so I would heartily recommend investing in the expansions as well as the main game.
Here is the one main sticking point I have: storage. The main game and expansions come in very nice boxes, as game boxes go. And even though the expansion boxes are far smaller than the main game, having four boxes for one game is going to take up space wherever you store your games. If that doesn’t bother you, great, but if space is limited, as it is for me, it is worth checking Etsy for storage solutions; neither Ravensberger or 鶹 currently provide a single storage solution to hold the main game and all three expansions.
As long as you’ve got the space for it, and a little bit of patience to get accustomed to the rules, you’re going to find Villainous to be a rousing good time! It’s good to be bad sometimes.
