Product description

How does a Squad…become a Cult? How does a Cult…become a Classic? When it was released in 1987, The Monster Squad was deemed a failure by critics and was, according to the box office, a film no one cared about. But over the last three decades, word of mouth has turned it into a cultural phenomenon. Wolfman’s Got Nards is a howlingly entertaining documentary that explores the power of cult film told through the lens of The Monster Squad, taking an in-depth look into the film’s conception, response, cult status and revival. Through interviews with the cast, crew, screenwriters, directors, academics and original reviewers as well as through never-before-seen footage, it turns the lens on an audience of self-proclaimed misfits (including celebrities and filmmakers) who have kept The Monster Squad alive for more than thirty years. Directed by André Gower, who starred as Squad member Sean Crenshaw in the original movie! This special edition, loaded with new extras is must own for all the fans of The Monster Squad.

I loved this documentary. I love how Andre Gower went around and talked to fans with Ryan Lambert and Ashley Bank while they were on tour for the 30th anniversary of The Monster Squad. It is really great that Andre did from the fans point of view and got Some of the cast to talk on camera about their experiences. It is great that Andre used some fan art on the documentary and had some music from Ryan Lambert’s old bands Elephone and Kill Moi. I get shown in the Iheartrudy zine page.

3.0 out of 5 stars A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE 1987 FILM THE MONSTER SQUAD, NO EXTRAS

WOLFMAN'S GOT NARDS is a Documentary about the 1987 Comedy/Horror film the Monster squad
produced & Directed by Actor Andre Gower, is it worth buying? yes but for under $30
this Doco is only for Huge massive fans of the film the Monster squad,
and has retrospective interviews with some of the cast & crew plus many Loyal fans of the film
recorded on camera in 2018, it is both a retrospective and Legacy Documentary of the film
Andre Gower, Ryan Lambert, Ashley Banks, screenplay writer Shane black, Film's Director Fred Dekker
are the ones mainly interviewed, you also get very brief interviews with Actress Lisa Fuller, Stephen Macht
and Duncan regeher who played Dracula in the film
for some reason there's no more interview footage of Lisa Fuller, stephen Macht or Duncan which is very dissapointing for this Doco, there's also interviews with the special make up effects team that did the Monster make up effects for the film, theres also some Behind the scenes footage from some scenes from the film from 1986 which is very interesting to watch, total runtime goes for 85mins
EXTRAS, tragically no extended interview footage no outtake interview footage
theres no seperate Behind the scenes featurette from 1986 either
the only extra is the Promo Trailer for the Documentary thats all you get which is very insulting
as a big fan of the film myself i want to see extras aswell not just the Documentary
Andre Gower didn't bother adding any outtake interview footage for the extras or Behind the scenes 1986 footage, the Disc is region 1 locked so you need all regions player for the Disc to work
the Doco is also available on blu-ray format which also has the same content NO EXTRAS
so if you don't want to pay over $40 just to watch the Documentary on blu-ray
then just buy the dvd version, not worth the cash buying the blu-ray version big ripoff actually.
especially when there's no extras added to the Disc, so i give 3 stars for the Documentary
if there was alot of extras added, outtake extended interviews added etc
then i would give 5 stars for the Documentary alone

Fans of Fred Dekker's Monster Squad would totally want to get this in their collection. it's as if The Goonies but with the universal monsters, as well as the fact that the late actress Marry Ellen Trainor played both Mrs. Walsh in The Goonies and Sean and Phoebe's mom in The Monster Squad is a cool little fun fact.

It shows the love of the fans such who like me love this film and find it to be timeless, it shows some great interviews with Fred Dekker and the cast about the making of the film and the unfortunate flop it took upon it's release. For me the part of the film that stands out of the film is when the stories get to the late actor, Brent Chalem, like him I was a "fat kid" and endured a lot of Horace's struggles of being bullied and seeing him shine and kill The Gillman and kick The Wolfman in the nards, which is so great that the title of the film was his line and I assume it's an tribute to him as well.

I watch MS a few times a year and remember renting it a grocery store back in the 80s when I saw it for the first time, I then taped it off HBO and warn out the special edition DVD years later from re-watching it, so it's a big gem from my childhood and was excited to see this. I had no idea there were so many others who were as passionate as I was, it was surely under the radar when it came out and my brother and I were the only ones who really seemed to know about it in our friend circle. Crazy how movies gain traction over the years and become cult hits. The movie still holds up and it's a treat to hear so many fans and cast share their stories as I look back on my days of watching it on those summer days back in the 80's.
