Wish Kindle Edition
鶹
The #1 New York Times–bestselling middle-grade novel about a girl who, with the help of a true-blue friend, a big-hearted aunt and uncle, and the dog of her dreams, unexpectedly learns the true meaning of family in the least likely of places. Perfect for fans of Katherine Applegate and Kate DiCamillo.
Eleven-year-old Charlie Reese has been making the same secret wish every day since fourth grade. She even has a list of all the ways there are to make the wish, such as cutting off the pointed end of a slice of pie and wishing on it as she takes the last bite. But when she is sent to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to live with family she barely knows, it seems unlikely that her wish will ever come true. That is until she meets Wishbone, a skinny stray dog who captures her heart, and Howard, a neighbor boy who proves surprising in lots of ways. Suddenly Charlie is in serious danger of discovering that what she thought she wanted may not be what she needs at all.

Product description
Review
*A New York Times Bestseller*
“O’Connor (How To Steal a Dog) pens a touching tale of resilience sure to resonate with children who have ever felt like they didn’t belong...Feeling kinship with a stray dog, Charlie is overcome with desire to give ‘Wishbone’the loving home she, too, is desperately searching for. When Wishbone disappears and she is compelled to search for him, Charlie learns there are people worth holding on to and what you wish for may not be what you really want...Poignant and genuine, this is a tale that will resonate with readers long after they finish it and have them cheering for the underdogs―both of the two-legged and four-legged varieties.” ―School Library Journal
“At school, at home, and in the community, the characters and settings are well drawn, but it’s the narrator’s convincing, compelling voice that will draw readers into the novel and keep them there until her wish finally comes true.” ―BǴǰ
“The many ways [Charlie] wishes form something of a catalog of folk and family traditions and are delightful all by themselves....Speaking in an honest voice revealing her hurt, resentment, and vulnerability, Charlies explains how her wish comes true. A warm, real, and heartfelt tale.” ―Kirkus Reviews
“O’Connor again finds the sweet spot for young readers who are beyond early chapter books but not quite ready for the cynicism and/or complexity of much tween-into-teen lit. Bertha, Gus, and the Odoms are certainly awash in goodness, but their big-heartedness never devolves into sentimentality.” ―The Bulletin of the Center of Children's Books
“O’Connor has the setting and colloquial mountain speech down pat, but most important, she gets at the heart of Charlie’s unhappiness, showing that wishes may come true, but perhaps not in the ways we expect.” ―The Horn Book

- Reviewed in Canada on February 13, 2022Verified PurchaseI got this book for my daughter not knowing what it was about. We started reading it and it didnt take long for us to fall in love with it. We didnt want to put it down when bedtime came. I cried a few times reading it as the story can be a bit heartbreaking at times. My daughter is 8 and sh loved it so much. We have close friends who are a foster family so this book really pulled on the heart strings. I dont keep things like this from my daughter so for her she understood what was going on. It was a sad start but an amazing ending. You go from happy to sad to happy again and there is so much emotion felt throughout the book. This was our first chapter book we read and finished it and started a different one and my girl said i want to read wish again. Thats how much we loved it
- Reviewed in Canada on October 13, 2022Verified PurchaseA beautiful story. Charlie's parents were not particularly good at caring for her, now they can not care for her so she goes to live with her aunt and uncle. She is not happy about having to move away. She keeps on wishing she could move back to her old town. She resents everyone and just about everything, until she meets a stray dog. Her sister come to stay for a few days and Charlie starts to see her new life with her aunt and uncle in a new light.
A story well written. Both 10 year old and myself loved this book. The author paints a picture with her words. Both my daughter and myself could picture the characters and their homes.
Good book for 10 years to to 99 years old.

5.0 out of 5 stars it is supposed to be 4 and a half for my review
Verified Purchasethe book was really intresting and i just wanted my kindle to be charged cause it died when i was on 90%. Why i chose 4 and half stars is cause there were no proper mysterys there were lots of small every day mysterys but not one big main mystery but the story was mostly happy like 10% violent 30% wishing and 5% sad and 55% happy.
This is my opinion of the book have a good time ;)
