Even though the CarlinKit 4.0 isn’t the latest version (they’re already on 5.0), it still works really well. In the box, you get the dongle, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-A to USB-C cable — so you’re good to go regardless of your car’s ports.

I tested this using my 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC43, and while the connection wasn’t instant, it wasn’t bad either — just a slight delay when starting up. Once connected, everything ran smoothly.

One of my favorite things about this adapter is the OTA updates via the web interface. That alone sets it apart from a lot of the others I’ve tested. Updating the firmware through the built-in web interface is super convenient and has already helped clear up a few minor bugs. You also get a nice little interface in the car showing which phone it’s connecting to, which is a helpful touch.

But the real standout feature for me is the USB-A passthrough. Being able to charge my phone without unplugging the adapter is honestly such a small but huge quality-of-life thing. I just wish it was USB-C passthrough instead, since that’s what most of my cables are now.

What I liked 👍🏻:
• Solid build quality
• Clean in-car interface that shows active connection
• OTA updates through a simple web interface
• Adjustable settings via the web UI
• USB-A passthrough — makes charging while connected super convenient

What I didn’t love 👎🏻:
• Audio quality sounds slightly compressed
• A bit of lag when switching songs (common with wireless CarPlay)
• Slight delay when connecting at startup
• Would have preferred USB-C passthrough

Quick Setup and Seamless CarPlay Experience

The Carlinkit was very easy to set up on our 2019 Ford. The instructions were clear and straightforward, and after setup, the phone connected within seconds of starting the vehicle. It worked just like a wired connection—seamless and responsive.
I did attempt a system update, but it was extremely slow and never completed. It would be helpful if updates could be performed through a PC interface instead.
There are a few things I would have preferred. For example, my wife doesn’t like using the CarPlay interface and prefers the native Ford Sync system without the phone connected. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is by physically unplugging the Carlinkit from the USB port. A built-in on-screen bypass option would make switching between interfaces much more convenient.
Overall, once connected, it performed exactly like a wired connection. This is the Carlinkit 4 model—there are newer versions available, so some of these issues may have been addressed in those.

The car link item has been excellent so far it connects seems nicely and there’s no need for any dangling cables in and around the car. This has kept the car a lot neater and more clean the set up and the instructions were very easy to read and easy to install. It’s almost as a plug-in play item I would highly recommend this unit if you do not have a wireless CarPlay connection and would like to have the wireless capability and not have any wires.

Our 2017 Subaru doesnt have the snappiest version of Android Auto/CarPlay but with this dongle, it doesn’t seem to matter. It was super easy to install (no need to download an app) and now when the car starts, we just select what device we want to connect via Bluetooth.

No more fooling around with cords or bad connections (both iPhones and Android work perfectly so far.) Super impressed!

One unimportant thing is that it feels a little ‘light’ for the price point.

I’ve been using this Wireless CarPlay Adapter for a while now, and it’s a super convenient upgrade for anyone tired of plugging in their phone every time they get in the car. The setup was genuinely plug-and-play — no extra apps or complicated steps. It connects quickly, and I can use Siri, stream music, and navigate without any issues.

It’s worth noting it only works if your car already has wired CarPlay (which I double-checked before buying), and while it’s compatible with both iPhone and Android, the wireless Android Auto is only for Android 11 and above. The connection stays stable most of the time, with only the occasional minor lag when switching between apps.

Overall, a solid little device that simplifies the driving experience. Took off one star since it doesn’t support screen mirroring or video, and it’s not compatible with every car brand — so check your car’s compatibility list carefully.

I’ve been using the CarlinKit 4.0 adapter for a few weeks now, and it’s made my daily driving much more convenient. The transition from wired to wireless CarPlay works smoothly for the most part, and I love being able to hop in and go without plugging in my iPhone every time. Music, GPS, and Siri all function as expected, and the setup was simple.

The only downside is that there’s a slight lag occasionally when switching between apps or during calls, but nothing major. Still a solid upgrade if you’re tired of cables and want a more seamless experience.

Would definitely recommend—with the understanding that it’s not quite as fast as a direct wired connection.
