'To see the world in a grain of sand, and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hands, and eternity in an hour' William Blake

William Blake was a poet and artist. Born in Soho in the eighteenth century, the son of a shopkeeper, he is now acclaimed as a radical left-field artist. Most recently, the Tate held an exhibition of his work: 'Magnificent ... reveal's Blake's vision at its most vivid and strange' GUARDIAN

Blake's written work was equally vivid. A major poet of the Romantic age, the full range of his poetry includes the joyful and sorrowful, the childlike and complex - and illustrates his original and prophetic vision. Considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic opinions, he is now revered for the depth of his poetry and art, and the philosophical undercurrents intrinsic to all his creative work.

'If the Sun and Moon should ever doubt, they'd immediately go out'

'The imagination is not a state; it is the human existence itself'

From the Publisher

Founded in 1906 by J.M. Dent, the Everyman Library has always tried to make the best books ever written available to the greatest number of people at the lowest possible price. Unique editorial features that help Everyman Paperback Classics stand out from the crowd include: a leading scholar or literary critic's introduction to the text, a biography of the author, a chronology of her or his life and times, a historical selection of criticism, and a concise plot summary. All books published since 1993 have also been completely restyled: all type has been reset, to offer a clarity and ease of reading unique among editions of the classics; a vibrant, full-color cover design now complements these great texts with beautiful contemporary works of art. But the best feature must be Everyman's uniquely low price. Each Everyman title offers these extensive materials at a price that competes with the most inexpensive editions on the market-but Everyman Paperbacks have durable binding, quality paper, and the highest editorial and scholarly standards.

Blake has never been one of my favourite English poets, but I am really pleased with this recording. All the poems are brought to life by the fine readings of these excellent British actor-readers, including several poems that I had never liked while studying them at school. The narrative, interspersed between the poems, gives the listener a useful perspective by placing each poem in context. The entire series, of which this set of cassettes is just one part, is excellent and worth the chase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete written works- excellent

Does what it says on the tin: this book contains the complete written works of Blake (Songs of Innocence/Experience...etc, my favorite poem being The Human Abstract) it doesn't contain any art works by Blake or anyone else.

The book is small and light, and at the price (i got mine for 1p + P+P) why not. A perfectly good addition to my bookshelf.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT Complete
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2024

This is titled “William Blake, Complete Collection.” However, it is NOT the complete collection of his poetry. It does not have any of his key, later and longer poems - the epics Milton, Jerusalem, nor The Four Zoas…and a couple others. This was very frustrating as it is not as advertised & I’ve been waiting days to get those poems in paperback. I say this to keep you informed & let you know that if you were looking for the complete works, this is not it.
