The Wildest Hunt: True Stories of Game Wardens and Poachers
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
鶹
A lively collection of wilder-than-fiction poaching stories from across Canada and the US, including insights from investigating officers involved in real poaching situations.
Get ready to hear some of the wildest true crime imaginable. Showcasing fish and wildlife poaching stories from every province and territory in Canada and every state in the United States, decorated fishery officer Randy Nelson offers a thrilling look into a dangerous industry.
With insights gathered through thousands of phone calls and emails to investigating officers, The Wildest Hunt collects over one hundred North American fish and wildlife officers' stories, with tales ranging from absolutely disgusting to hysterically hilarious. Nelson takes listeners across North America, from busting turtle-trafficking rings in Oklahoma to collecting a fourteen-and-a-half foot beluga whale from a bus in Saskatchewan.
Nelson's entertaining stories also shed light on the important work of fish and wildlife officers, and the often messy, sometimes dangerous situations they must face, as well as how important the public can be in solving wildlife crime.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2024Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI recently had the pleasure of Randy’s company on a fly-in fishing trip in northern Saskatchewan. Positive, pleasant and humble are adjectives I would use to describe this talented story teller.
So much energy and so many experiences’ and accomplishments!!
Read both his books; I’m glad I did.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 24, 2023Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is a great read for anyone who values wildlife, rare plants and animals, fish, and nature in general. And for anyone who is concerned about poaching, and appreciates the efforts of myriad conservation/fish and wildlife officers who work tirelessly to apprehend poachers. Randy Nelson's character, experience and passion in this field are evident throughout his book. The stories he has collected are diverse and compelling reads, delivered crisply in short, readable chapters. Hard to put down. But also sad to see such stark examples of just how much poaching goes on in North America.

- Reviewed in Canada on September 25, 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseIn a time when Conservation Officers have a bad rap for shooting lost bears it was a delight to read of their success stories. The author, apart from a being Conservation Officer is a natural writer and his stories just flowed. Interestingly, as I was reading the book outside in the sunshine with my old dog at my feet i was called over to my neighbors just as the 鶹 driver pulled up. Thankfully he wasn't fazed by my temporarily abandoned dog and my next read, Murder in the 33rd Degree, was safely delivered. Very professional.
The Wildest Hunt is a must read for those concerned with the state of our wildlife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe following is an “excerpt” from NYSDEC officers Liza Bobseine and James Davey’s story:
Lieutenant Bobseine “grabbed their guns and threw the weapons into the darkness, yelling at one guy to call 911. She quickly dropped beside [Officer] Davey and started treating the horrible wound in his hip and groin area. Blood was pumping out at an alarming rate that she described as looking like milk pouring out of a jug. She pressed hard on the gushing wound and never let up the pressure.”
“Lieutenant Bobseine shared the twelve-minute recorded 911 call of the incident with me. It made the hair on my neck stand up. I felt sick. It’s an amazing recording of an officer maintaining control of a nightmare situation. She’s holding constant pressure on the wound while trying to direct the two poachers and answer the barrage of questions from the dispatcher. The shooter is holding the flashlight while she administers first aid. She sends the second poacher with his truck to meet the ambulance. Medevac is ordered but the weather doesn’t allow them to fly. Bobseine constantly encourages Davey, reassuring him that he’ll be okay. At one point he asks her to pass on word to his family. He knows he is in trouble.”
“Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan is the ingenious title used by author Randy Nelson when writing this story.
Mama take this badge from me
I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark too dark to see
Feels like I'm knockin' on Heaven's door
