"Robyn Carr has done it again... What We Find is complex, inspirational, and well-written. A romance that truly inspires readers as life hits them the hardest."
-San Francisco Review Journal
"Insightfully realized central figures, a strong supporting cast, family issues, and uncommon emotional complexity make this uplifting story a heart-grabber that won't let readers go until the very end.... A rewarding (happy) story that will appeal across the board and might require a hanky or two." -Library Journal, starred review on What We Find

5.0 out of 5 stars What We Find (Sullivan's Crossing Book 1)
Verified PurchaseSully Sullivan inherited a camping ground, cabins and general store on a lake near a Continental Devide Trail (CDT) from his father after serving in the army. He meets Pheobe and quickly marries her and takes her to the Crossing where she stays, not happy for 6 years. They have one child called Maggie. She wrenches Maggie away and moves to Denver. After a year and a divorce she meets and marries Walter, a neurosurgeon. On top of that her love life is shattered after 2 years with Anthony, recently divorced with a child finding herself pregnant, he not happy, having a miscarriage and being upset about losing the baby. Anthony dumps because she is too emotional and needy. She hightails it to the Crossing to stay with Sully for a couple of weeks while she figures out what to do. At the camping ground there is a man passing through but staying a long time called Cal Jones (California). While Maggie is getting closer to Sully, she is also becoming close Cal. Cal's background is that he was a successful Defence Lawyer married to Linda, also a lawyer who has passed away from a terrible disease 2 years ago. Leaving Cal is an l don't know what to do mode. He knows he wants to scatter Linda's ashes somewhere on the CDT and after a couple of months he takes off leaving Maggie for what could be 6 months to maybe forever. He heads off, gets 2 weeks in, scatters the ashes and heads back to the Crossing as he missed Maggie so much. Maggie wins her court case and can still practice. Cal asks her to marry him and has bought a barn, half way between the Crossing and Denver, which he will renovate into a house. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a new series!
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI really loved the start of this new series, it capitvated me right from the very first chapter. I've read all of the 'Virgin River' and the 'Thunder Point' series, so I knew this was going to be another great series. And I was right! The story and the romance is very believable and so compelling, and I could actually relate to Maggie's burn out situation, and her urgent need to get away from it all.
Maggie Sullivan, a neurosurgeon in Denver, is being sued for malpractice, her boyfriend has broken off with her, and she’s just lost her baby. She seeks solace at a remote campground owned by her father. And she falls in love with an itinerant camper.
Cal Jones was a very successful lawyer who is trying to figure out how to go on with his life, after watching his wife suffer for years and then eventually loosing her life to a horrible disease. He ends up at the same remote camp site. He'd been there for a few weeks waiting for the weather to improve, so he can spread his wife's ashes in the mountain side. It's something he needed to do in order to move on with his life.
Like I said before; this was an excellent book. It's also a great beginning, to what I believe is going to be another great series. My problem though is the price of these books. I wasn't bothered so much about paying the price for this one, but the next one....and being the avid reader that I am.... is priced way out of my league. So.... unless the price is drastically reduced, I am going to have to forgo the rest of this series. I don't want ot, but financially I have to. It's not that I don't think great author's like her don't deserve more money for their books, because they do....but sometimes increases like these will cause your loyal customers to walk away. I've been following Ms. Carr from the very beginning of her career, and I'd be sad to give her up, but at these prices I just can't do it anymore with my limited income.

5.0 out of 5 stars ein wundervolles Buch

5.0 out of 5 stars real people in real situations but hooray some kind of HEA, because this is a romance....
Format: Mass Market PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe beginning of a superb new series of small town entanglements by the awesome Robyn Carr, one of my absolutely tip top reliable anti depressants of choice. Maggie, burnt out young neurosurgeon from Denver comes home to Sullivan's Crossing in the magnificent countryside, where visitors and hikers can access the Colorado and Continental Divide Trails. Maggie has had a professional setback which has to be resolved and a bad breakup with her doctor boyfriend. She goes to stay with her father Sully who has never been involved in her upbringing but has been involved with the recreational facilities in Sullivan's Crossing, his familial inheritance. Her citified mother could not stand the isolation, and the marriage ended early into her childhood, Maggie was brought up in Chicago but could not resist returning to Colorado for med school and on. Now burnt out and exhausted she is pausing In Sullivan's Crossing where she meets Cal, a mysteirous widower who comes from a family much more dysfunctional and complex than hers......and they slowly trust and untangle each other in the small town environment Robyn Carr does so well: sharply drawn characters across a wide spectrum, with interesting pasts, interesting problems, interesting personal journeys which engage the reader, because Maggie, Cal, Sully, Connie the firefighter, Maggie's mother Phoebe, Maggie's stepfather, Walter, a successful doctor, Cal's siblings - Sierra, Dakota, Sedona appear or have back stories, as do his profoundly dysfunctional parents Jed, a schizophrenic and his complicit mother Marissa, living in rural Iowa. With the slow accretion of details; these characters around Sullivan's Crossing - the people helping out, Enid, and Tom Canaday the local go to fix it everything, to name but few become people we want to know better. We have brushes with the law, cannabis growers, medical emergencies, emotional meltdowns, but while a description might make things seem heavy, it is all laced with everyday delightful humour, energy the unexpected. The addictive Virgin River series was set in northern California, so we have moved locations, but Robyn Carr fans are being gifted a new small town series which exhibits the same qualities of fascinating people, beautifully described locations, humour, pathos, affection, and for the reader, knowing things are going to really begin to work out. And all of this with a light touch, who could ask for anything more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written story
Verified PurchaseAnother great read from this author. Really intelligent writing with no stupid scenes. Maggie is in need of a break, she is a neurosurgeon being sued, her business partners are under investigation and her doctor boyfriend has decided he has had enough of the drama. She goes home to her father who owns a camp site in the mountains and meets the quiet handsome Cal who plans to walk some of the trails around the mountain. They start an affair. Cal keeps his own issues as to why he is bumming around and when he leaves for his hike Maggie is lost.
