This fan is sleek and modern looking, I love the look of it personally. The materials the fan is made of is mostly metal except the blades, which are plastic, and seem to be good quality for outdoor use. The fan feels sturdy and is about the same weight as a regular hardwired fan. It was easy enough to assemble and obviously installing was as simple as plugging it into the wall... ingenious!
note: the fan needs to find it center of gravity (like a washing machine), and it does bounce and jump when you turn it on initially. It looks a bit scary because it's a hard bounce and a loud knock for about 3 to 4 revolutions before it's balanced. Once it is balanced, it works well and seamlessly switches between speeds. It runs fairly quietly.
The hook or clip on the fan itself is a carabiner clip, but the ceiling hook that it comes with is a J-hook. I don't trust that the fan will not bounce off the J-hook, so be mindful of that. I switched the J-hook to an eye bolt, and now I feel better about it. The light works well and the remote is a good, larger size remote that is overall a good quality remote (not those dinky skinny little plastic remotes that don't line up with their function keys).
Other weird things: the fan isn't mounted to the ceiling so it feels and looks a bit funny - it sways in the wind and that takes a bit of getting used to! The cord coming out of the fan at the ceiling also looks a bit funny to me, but you get used to it after a day or two.
I love the fan outside on the deck, it makes such a difference! It also helps keep the mosquitos at bay, which is a big bonus that I didn't consider. The cord could have been a bit longer in my opinion because the distance between the center of the ceiling and the outlet is generally further than the center of the floor to the outlet – that was a bit of a miss from the manufacturers.
