The Way of the Wicked: The Chronicles of Hugh de Singleton, Surgeon, Book 17
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
鶹
Delve into the world of fourteenth-century England in this thrilling historical murder mystery, the seventeenth in the brilliant Chronicles of Hugh de Singleton
Kendrick Wroe is found dead in the frozen Shill Brook.
Most suspect he has been poaching Lord Gilbert’s fish, though Sir Hugh finds reason to believe this may not be so … Then one of Kendrick’s friends is slain; another seems to be in mortal peril, and in an apparent attempt to throw Hugh off the scent, his comely daughter Bessie is abducted.
As the town drops all to find her, the tension steadily increases: a member of a plow team dies in mysterious circumstances, Kendrick’s surviving friend is forced to flee for safety in Eynsham Abbey, and as events seemingly spiral out of control, it’s all Hugh can do to master his anxiety and uncover the killer …
Mel Starr’s latest novel is a thoroughly enjoyable medieval murder mystery. It may be enjoyed as complete in itself, or as part of the Hugh de Singleton series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The newest book written by one of my favorite authors.
Verified PurchaseI read everything this author writes. His books are well written tales of the medieval era with engaging characters and authenticity. His background as a teacher allows him to spin tales that are worth reading and contemplating. The main character is a trained surgeon with surprisingly wise treatments of his patients. Starting with book one "The Unquiet Bones"

5.0 out of 5 stars Another mystery for Sir Hugh to solve
Verified PurchaseAlways enjoy Mel Starr's stories of Hugh de Singleton, surgeon and bailiff in the 1300s
Murder mysteries but nothing too horrific, good bedtime reading, although you may find yourself thinking "just a few more pages, then I will go to sleep" into the early hours!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mel Starr does it again!
Verified PurchaseMel Starr writes a wonderful series of mystery novels about a tiny English village in the late 1300s. When I finish a book, I really feel I have been there. Geography, food, clothing, and social customs all add to the feeling. I anxiously await each new book’s publication.
