Each colour within this wide and balanced spectrum has been selected and formulated to offer the greatest choice so that artists can use a unique palette that best suits their work.

Pigments

We use single pigments wherever possible. Single pigment formulations are purer in hue and cleaner in colour than mixtures of pigments, providing a larger number of colour mixes before resulting in muddy effects. Within the new Professional Water Colour range there are 75 single pigments amounting to 78% of the range.

Transparency

Our Professional Water Colour exhibit unrivaled transparency due to the unique pigment dispersion in the manufacture of the colour. This is particularly important because transparency is the key characteristic of water colour. As a result of the thinness of the water colour film, all colours have a transparent quality on paper, allowing the reflective white of the paper to shine through. However, pigments do retain their natural characteristics to some degree. For example, transparent pigments refract light in much the same manner as stained glass, making jewel-like brilliance and clean mixing. Opaque colours such as cadmiums are likely to cover significantly more than transparent colours.

Permanence

93 out of 96 colours in the Professional Water Colour range are classed as 'permanent for artists' use'. This means that 97% of our Professional Water Colour are rated AA or A for permanence to ensure that the colours used today will appear the same for generations to come.

This is the Windsor and Newton Professional watercolor brand. I am new to watercolor painting and I've been trying to learn with cheaper paints. The beginning of learning watercolor painting is frustrating, and there's a lot to learn. I want to know that the mistakes I'm seeing in my work aren't because of poor paint brand choices. I'd prefer to start out on the right foot with high quality paint, paper, brushes, tutorials, etc. Windsor and Newton makes high quality paints and paper at a reasonable price. This set was on sale for $145. This pan is all metal, the paint pucks are creamy hard and shiny. I have to peel all the individual wrappers off the 24 paint pucks. They are sitting nicely in the pan, they kind of snap into place but they do fall out of their spaces if the pan is flipped around and you have to out them back. I'm not planning on traveling with this so I probably won't have to worry about paint pucks spilling around inside the pan to a greater extent. I've read many really high reviews about Windsor and Newton Professional watercolor paint and I'm looking forward to my journey using them. The delivery was super fast, within 2 days, which is rare, the parcel/paints arrived in pristine condition, well wrapped, and they are the professional line, and not the cotman line. You can see the Professional brand name on the wrapper.

I'm new to watercolour and didn't want low quality supplies to be a stumbling block my process so I chose the professional grade paints. They are AMAZING, with rich, deep colours. I was initially surprised by the small pots of pigments, but after trying them out I realized that these will last me for years! The pigments are so rich that a little goes a long, long way. I gave all rating options a 5 because I am absolutely delighted with the set! Truth be told though, I don't know what "sheerness" means - I'd just assume more water, more sheerness... but that is because I have zero experience or knowledge of such things. I highly recommend this set.

I��ve had a couple tubes of professional paints but thought it time to upgrade my travel pan set.

WOW!! The quality is apprarent straight away �� the swatches I did to test each colour ��. well they shine off the page. What a difference between the Cotman set and this professional set by W&N.

The cost was only double the student set but the results will be a significant improvement almost instantly. I spent hours blending and playing and seeing what looked like major strides in my skill but was just a superior quality paint doing the work.

DON��T DEBATE - it��s truly worth the extra money in this case. A solid name in art and this is a wonderful buy (approx $138 at time of purchase and worth it!!)

Pros: Fantastic price when compared to local art material dealers
- apparently almost all single-pigment colours
- choice of colours covers most needs without need for investing in more

Cons: The packaging had stickers in Chinese superimposed over the exterior.
Tangible difference in the packaging of each half pan when compared to individual half pans bought locally from the same range.
These lead me to believe that the product could be fake, especially considering the price for apparently the same set in local art stores ($240+ tax is the cheapest available in Canada)
Description mentions on �鶹��.ca that these are "Full Pans" when they are clearly not, and not mentioned as such in the photos of the packing.
For beginners, the set may be overwhelming, especially as many colours can be mixed from the provided pans. Cheaper sets such as from Cotman's range might be more rewarding to practice with.

Without chemical analysis of the actual pans, I cannot determine if they are a rip off, a cheap dealer re-selling expired sets, or a genuine bargain. That said, at $135 or even $150 CAD, these are a great price for apparently single pigment colours. The flimsy tin loses points, something I would not expect from W&N.

The only modification I would make is to replace the Cadmium free red provided with a genuine Cadmium Red from W&N, as I have found the former to be less performing in mixes. To make the tin more suitable for travel, add a good quality water brush and a tiny tube of Chinese white if that is something you use. I also replaced the black with a Derwent Inktense half pan black, as I prefer the resistance to lifting these colours offer.

This is a set of 24 half pans of W/N professional (NOT Cotman) watercolors in a black tin, sometimes marketed as a travel set. The pigments are just about as good as they get-transparent, rich and easily activated. Few tins include ideal color selections beyond the basic warm and cool hues. This one is close to ideal and includes 7 neutrals, including both yellow ochre and raw Sienna, a sepia, and ivory. Highlights are Permanent Rose, Permanent Magenta, Winsor violet, Indanthrene blue and Hookers green. This set includes both traditional and contemporary colors such as phtalo blue and phtalo green.
I added a few other pans of convenience colors in between the packaged rows.
During the 18 months since I first bought this kit, I have tried many other brands of professional watercolors in both tubes and pans. I keep coming back to this palette because it is a great combination of mixing colors and convenience favorites, and the quality is really outstanding. The price is less than professional pan sets by other companies that I found to be less satisfactory than these, in terms of both performance and color range.
Also-there is nothing wrong with the tin. When you buy any brand of these sets, one has to arrange and secure the half-pans by pinching together the sides of the metal brackets to hold them securely in place.

I ordered a second set on Feb 8, 2023 and the order was cancelled by the seller after more than a month. Seller did not respond to inquiries sent through �鶹�� messages, but �鶹�� re-ordered for me. It was worth the wait-I'm very pleased with these paints and recommend them highly.

I��ve tried Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton in tubes, but the convenience of pans for home and travel is really unbeatable.
