Birds such as the Acadian Flycatcher, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Indigo Bunting, Northern Mockingbird, Pyrrhuloxia, Rock Wren, Song Sparrow, Tree Swallow, and the Yellow Throated Warbler are known for their elaborate songs produced by their highly developed vocal organs. Warblers and Other Songbirds of North America is a breathtaking collection of 285 species of these beautiful, melodious creatures, the largest number of species in a single field guide about North American songbirds.
Arranged by region and taxonomic order, every songbird is depicted life-sized; each photograph is accompanied by a short description with essential information on identification and the particular species, habits, and behavior. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book!
Verified PurchaseThis book is an excellent reference book. I use it for id'ing birds as well as for reference when I sketch. The life size pictures of the birds are really helpful in seeing the tiny details.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-Sized - a perfect reference source
Verified PurchaseThis book is fantastic! It is a great reference for anyone interested in birding at any level. Seeing life-sized birds and sharp photography helps narrow down the species you may have seen. A bonus is that this book covers songbirds across both eastern and western North America; often books only cover half of North America. I'm an artist who likes to sculpt life-sized songbirds. I go out in the field and take lots of photography, but don't always fully grasp measurements written in field guides. Another reason I bought this book because my other favorite field guide is also by Paul Sterry (Birds of Eastern North America - Paul Sterry & Brian E. Small).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Visual Overview of NA birds
Verified PurchaseThis book is a current favorite among visiting guests. It's not packed with overwhelming information like an identification guide but has the basic identification aspects and habitat information you'd expect. Having life size pictures has helped my non bird-tuned friends and works great for older relatives. There are a few species missing and the topography of a bird page doesn't include all the aidentification anatomy terms that are written on the glossary page. Still well worth the <$10. I highly recommend it for those interested in sharing casual bird information and informing guests of birds at your local feeder.
