- Reviewed in Canada on May 21, 2024Verified PurchaseThis weed cutting tool is well made and highly effective. I am trying to get away from gas powered tools in my yard. I never thought I would find something helps me clear the weeds that grow in the alley beside my house but the Walensee Weed Grass Cutter gets the job done. As an added bonus, I looked pretty tough using it. I have no doubt, I have gained some street credentials as the most macho gardener on my block since getting this tool. Highly recommended!

- Reviewed in Canada on July 4, 2023Verified PurchaseI live on 2+ acres and leave about half of that wild. County regulations require that I eliminate certain weeds. In past years I've used either hedge trimmers (kills my back) or herbicides. This tool is superior to either of these other methods. I agree that the handle could be a bit longer but I'm still able to use it without tiring my back. The blade is plenty sharp and cuts through thick weed stems with ease. It is still a bit of a workout swinging it repeatedly but I'm fine with that. Great value for the money.

- Reviewed in Canada on August 27, 2023Verified PurchaseUPDATE 2 - Worse and worse. Handle metal is too soft for the bolts and is collapsing from tightening the bolts. Okay for cutting grass or raspberries but nothing else. Photo shows pinched handle tube. Waste of money.
UPDATE - After using it for a few hours i find the bolts are too small and weak for the function. Needs constant retightening. Photos show needed washers at bottom point. Handle sides off. Disappointed.
I had a different brand for years and this was a replacement. The parts are strong and solid and the design is great for assembly. It's strong once assembled. Maybe the spongy handle grip is a bit soft but it does the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Weed Whacker
Verified PurchaseThis is a pretty good weed whacker. I would say it cut most of the weeds in the back yard and its worth the money. It is quick to assemble and handy to have around when there are tall weed patches. However, I don't think it takes the place of mowing. It can cut tall grass, but to do that in the whole yard would be a tiresome project, and it can't cut the corners of the yard because you can't swing it there. I also used it on some really tall and tough weeds half my height with thick stalks that I was unable to uproot by hand, and it cut them right down. I swung it like a golf club, or sometimes one-handed like a pendulum as I walked through the yard. I think the handle is the right length because if it were any longer it would be awkward and difficult to swing (and I'm 6 feet tall). The only issue with it is the gripper tends to slide off the handle after several swings, but I just push it back on. Be careful putting it together because the blade can cut you. An Allen wrench is included, and so is a small super thin wrench, but I did not find that very useful. Anyway, it definitely works. It was even kind of fun, but the next day I had a sore shoulder from using it.

4.0 out of 5 stars User error
Verified PurchaseI am not the type of dude that enjoys yard work, nor am I usually the one to do it, since my wife dislikes the chores inside, and I loathe interacting with sunlight for spans longer than five minutes. My wife and I both manage the back yard for the most part, but I only bother with the front if she asks.
We have about 3 1/2 ft of low hill that leads up to our neighbor's yard that is part of our property and therefore our responsibility. We did not own a powered lawn mower before this year, and last year we used to pay a friend of a friend to mow our lawn. This year, my wife and I were doing the lawn thing ourselves, mostly her, and I realized that both of us had been ignoring the little side hill because... well, neither of us wanted to fight a manual mower up and down the hill.
I work out of town 7 days a week every other week. And as such, 7 days home, I handled inside chores, helped with some backyard maintenance, and was gone. I came home. Same thing. Side hill was getting overgrown, but surely that'd get taken care of!
Weeks of complacency later, grass on that side hill is a thriving lush nearly four foot tall ecosystem for a million bugs, birds, and small mammals we would see every now and again. But. We live in town. And we've got these little things called laws that suggest you'll get fined for just letting nature do it's thing. So we had to cut it.
Don't know what kind of idiot other than myself takes a non-electric push mower up against grass that is a handful weeks from being taller than me, but, hey, grass is grass. This did not work at all lol. Trying to avoid powered tools, I picked this up on a whim since grim reaper scythes are way more expensive than I thought. It came and took a few bolts to attach the orange bits that hold the blade, and I was back outside and more confident than ever that I was going to slaughter all this grass in an hour tops.
Lemme tell you, games like Stardew Valley did not prepare this man for actual real life grass. I must have seemed like a psychopath swinging this thing around like a broom at grass that I mostly just managed to push around. Sweaty and defeated, I took the L and bought an electric lawn mower and my wife used some free time the next week I was off and took care of it, bless her.
Anyway, point is, I have no real concept of if this is a good product or not, but I do know that I ain't bringing in a harvest or anything marginally close trying to rake at grass with this thing. 👍

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the hickory handled whip I own. Very sharp. Cuts like butter.
Verified PurchaseThis whip comes disassembled and there are instructions rolled up in an advertisement for their other products. There are square holes in the metal that correspond to square portions on the bolts included. The tools you need to assemble this are included, but a proper box wrench and allen key would be easier to use than the cheap ones in the box.
First, the blade is sharp and when I say sharp I mean sharp enough to hurt you if you don't exercise caution handling it. I recommend using gloves to assemble this product.
It took about six minutes to assemble with the included tools. The blade doesn't state which side is up, but the top is the side with the serrations.
This whip is heavier and sturdier than the hickory handled whip I own. The proper way to use a whip is to slightly bend at the knees and keep your back straight while swinging with objective of the blade swinging parallel to the ground. I am six-foot-four and was able to swing this with one hand, but the weight caused me to shift hands and for thicker grass I used two hands.
The key is to let the whipping action and the weight of the whip do most of the work, this is not a bat and the grass a baseball. Gravity and the weight of the whip and sharp blade will do the work for you.
I was able to cut a huge swarth in an overgrown lot in a little under an hour. This thing cut through grass, dandelions, weeds, and small pencil sized branched with little effort. I highly recommend this item, but be warned you will get a workout using it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what you'd expect
Verified PurchaseIt is very sturdy for the price you pay however it does not come with any instructions and I almost feel as if some of the pieces did not align quite right and I have to maneuver them quite a bit to get everything together. The design of the product itself works great but the handle is short. I am 5'4" and felt like I had to bend over to use it. It cuts OK despite the blades being sharp. If you have weeds that are thinner, another product might be better. For the tall and thicker weeds, it did work relatively well.
