Cordless hot glue gun

I’ve been using a very small hot glue gun for years, and more glue drips onto the mat than ever goes into the project. It wastes so much glue. Needless to say, this hot glue gun is a significant upgrade. After charging I tested it out on a couple of small projects which took around ten minutes, then left it for ten minutes to shut off automatically. Not a single drip in that time. No more cleanup! I would still always use a mat underneath to protect my desk, but the mat is no longer covered in glue. It only used a small amount of the glue stick to glue six patches.

I was a little surprised that the battery life was down to 85% after such a small job, but in doing the maths, it seems to add up, I think the run time would be 80-90 minutes. I don’t have any bigger projects to test the run time at the moment.

I’m happy that it comes with twenty glue sticks, because it uses larger sticks than the mini size ones I had.

It heats up fast and distributes the glue evenly. It stands up on its own thanks to the battery. It’s heavy enough not to tip over easily, but light enough that it was easy to use without getting tired arms and hands. I have quite small hands, and I was able to use it quite easily. I could have used this when I made a moss wall, it would have been so much easier.

If you are sick of those tiny drippy cheap glue guns and need an upgrade, this seems like a solid purchase. I haven’t used it much yet but so far I like it a lot.

I enjoy doing crafts with hot glue, my favorite is making flowers, leaves, geometric shapes and abstract designs on canvas. This requires a steady hand and I found it a bit difficult to get used to this big device. That said, there is a lot to like about this tool as well.

✅WHAT I LIKE:
▪️Great for big jobs that require a lot of glue. I like that I can create thick lines of glue right away.
▪️Comes with 20 large glue sticks.
▪️Comes with a USB power cord (no brick).
▪️You can use the battery to charge your phone, which is great for emergencies. You can also use your phone to charge the battery.
▪️I really appreciate the LCD screen on the battery, which clearly displays the remaining charge percentage.
▪️Auto shutoff after 10 minutes of inactivity.
▪️There’s a built in LED light to help you see while you’re working.
▪️Easy to operate. Press and hold until the green light turns on. As it heats up it will blink. Once it is ready to use, the green light turns solid.
▪️No drips, but lots of glue webs.🤭
▪️It took some time, but I was able to get cleaner lines by hovering the glue gun at a distance compared to my smaller device. This allowed me to have better control over the thickness of the stream as well.
▪️I like that it is portable and I don’t feel restricted to any particular outlet.
▪️Despite having a large battery, the tool is comfortable to hold and relatively light; though, not as light as a standard glue gun.
▪️Comes with instructions. It is important to put them in a safe place as it tells you how to clean the equipment and how to replace the nozzle when it wears out. It gives you the exact size you need too.
▪️For me, I felt like the battery depleted relatively fast — I get lost in my work sometimes. But when I did the math, it roughly adds up to their claim of 90 minute usage. It depleted 30% within a half hour of use. I was down to 11% when I made the discovery that I was able to use the glue gun while it charged the battery. This is a major plus, because nothing is worse than having to wait for your battery to charge in the middle of a project.

❌WHAT I DON’T LIKE:
▪️Hot glue can start leaking backwards into the the device preventing users from finishing a project. See video for context. The instructions do not inform users what to do if this happens. I was lucky enough to be able to dig it out through the side gap with some artist tools I had on hand. I feel fortunate that it was a clean release and that it didn’t partially melt the main glue stick.
▪️You may need time to get use to working with the glue gun because it is cumbersome and awkward at first. In order to get smooth lines, I had to hold my arm up with my other hand for support.
▪️The battery is huge, and sometimes impedes on projects that are laying completely flat on a table.
▪️I couldn’t find anywhere in the instructions if it addresses whether or not the tool can be operated while charging. This is pretty important to mention. I discovered on my own that you can. Not all models do this!
▪️When considering the price, I would have expected it to come with different style nozzle tips (thick, thin, etc.). Maybe this is something that can be added in the future.
▪️The proprietary battery concerns me. If it ever needs to be replaced, there’s a higher chance it could become obsolete due to it being an “off-brand”.
▪️Very expensive for a craft tool when considering the small ones are VERY inexpensive. I think the price could be more competitive.

I can see this being a useful tool for many different types of crafters. Especially those who are into flower arrangements, or adding decorative pieces to a project, etc. It’s adequate for some of my design tasks, but for the most part, I’ll likely stick to my smaller cordless device which has different nozzles. The biggest struggle with hot glue guns is the restrictions of the cord, why do they always seem too short? Well with this WORKPROX battery powered glue gun there are no more cords to restrict your movement, the gluing possibilities become endless.
In the box you will find the tool body, 1x 20volt 2ah battery, a usb to c charging cable and a bag of full size glue sticks (20) to get you started.
The body of the Hot glue gun is very simple and light weight. There is a light up power button on the top (press and hold to turn on and off), a large trigger handle, a rubber end, wide tip, work light, and a glue viewing window to check how much glue you have left.
The battery slides on smoothly clipping in place and features a digital battery percentage display, and a covered power port on the back with both a USB and C input/output ports with a separate power button at the allowing it to be used for charging or powering more than just the stand WORKPROX tools.
When paired together the WORKPROX hot glue gun is ready to work, warming up and ready to use in under 2 minutes. When you power on the tool the power button will flash green, once the light is solid it is at full temperature and ready to use. The first time I heated it up it did have a slight smell and smoked a little for a few seconds while the manufacturing residues burn off. It took almost a full glue stick to "prime" the gun. Once the glue started to flow i found that, with the provided glue, I had very good control of the flow and and amount of glue that was being laid. I was very impressed that when left to sit turned on no extra glue dripped from the nozzle, you will always have residual waste but there was no glue flowing unless the trigger was pulled. Press and hold the power button again and when the green light is off the tool will begin to cool. I did find that the cooling process did take a long time, it was about 15 minutes until it was cooled enough that I was no longer worried about how hot it still was. As with any hot tool the body of the tool will become hot to the touch, I found that directly above the WORKPROX label was warm to the touch but i could still comfortably touch it. The majority of the heat produced was from the W to the tip, gradually getting hotter the closer you got to the tip. The rubber cover does help guard from accidental burns from a touch but can definitely still burn you easily.
This Battery powered hot glue gun is definitely a crafters friend, but I do suggest if you are planning on having it on for long periods of time to get yourself either a larger or second battery so that you don't loose power unexpectedly.
