Firstly, I have to say the main reason I ordered this unit is for the third, interior, camera that many just do not have. This was the selling point for me. Having front and rear cameras is great but there can be instances when it is crucial to be able to prove that you were not driving without a seatbelt on or using your phone at the time of an accident or just at a traffic stop/being pulled over. The video quality of all three seemed perfectly acceptable to me, while I can see that the front camera is somewhat clearer than the other two. I have the camera display switched off when driving so that it’s not a distraction therefore I only ever see the footage if I play it back.
Installation was pretty straightforward - even more so for me as I was replacing a previous dashcam that involved dismantling the car interior trim a little to remove the it, so this one went in its place for the most part and then was wired in the same way and we snapped the trim back into position.
I had some help from my nephew in the actual settings on the unit as he was here for the weekend when I fitted it and he is very proficient with such things. It is set up to run all the time with the functions for recording accident damage or break-ins when the car is parked engaged. We decided that any drain on the car battery would be negligible as the battery is in good condition and I use the car every day so that is constantly charging it. Perhaps if I were to leave it parked for an extended time, such as an airport parking lot then it might be an issue but, at the same time, that’s when you want to have the security in place, so maybe a jump pack in the trunk in case of a depleted battery on your return might be a good idea? We also decide that, although it is nice that the unit came with a micro SD card, it is a smaller capacity one and that we would order a bigger card of a decent quality, as it will be recorded onto over and over again.
I’m not the sort person to take pleasure in tinkering with electronics such as this, I just like it to be there doing its job with as little input as possible required from me. This seems to achieve that quite nicely now that it is set up. To review any footage I have just removed the SD card and put it into my laptop or an adapter lead I have for my iPhone. I find this the easiest, over remembering the process on the unit itself.
Overall, I am very happy with this dashcam and the peace of mind it gives. I feel that, for me, it is at the top end of the price point I would want to pay for such a unit but it does represent quite good value considering all that is does.
