PROS:
- well built LED heads; domes are metal and should stand up to gentle bumps from the patio furniture
- simple installation with easy to follow instructions
- very bright (but warm) white LEDs
- enough extension on each light to span approx. 36" per light
- retaining clips are very simple and retain their position greatly
- waterproof design so that you can set it and forget it!
CONS:
- none so far (which is a good thing!)
I had bought these for our new deck. We bought several solar powered lights for accents and the path, but I felt that we needed more light to help light up the deck in the evening. I decided to purchase these lights. They were priced reasonable and had several options to choose from. They arrived quickly and once I started to study all of the components, I realized that these were very simple to install.
The instructions call for a 24mm bit, but I ended up using a 7/8" bit and it worked just fine. The connectors are nicely marked with 'arrows' to indicate proper alignment between each plug. There is a small o-ring for weather seal, but I also used a little dielectric grease for each connection. Once I installed the lock ring, I then wrapped each connector with electric tape. 3 lines of defense can't hurt at all.
I mounted my lights 12" above the decking, which I felt was enough to illuminate the deck without being evasive. Also, I'm really glad I listened to my wife regarding spots or half domes: these are fairly bright lights, so if I had purchased the spots and mounted them vertically, there would be 10 LED flashlights mounted on my deck, flashing the bright LEDs directly into peoples eyes! The half domes are perfect and keep the light concentraded in a downward beam. I'm not sure the pics I've posted do them justice, but these lights turned out great! a heavy rainfall just ended (over 6 hours) and they are still working without a hitch. I look forward to adding more of these along the other side of the deck, but until then these will do just fine! I highly recommend these for any deck project - simple and reliable!
