    Un homme qui écrit un roman comme celui-ci qui raconte, avec les mots d'un jeune "avec la vie devant soi", pourtant sans avenir et qui ne vient de nulle part (fils de pute, musulman et pris en charge par une vieille pute juive, elle-même épave rescapée des camps de concentration). Pourtant, il est là, bien là... ce jeune qui cherche à comprendre, à apprendre, à aimer, entouré de toute cette humanité souffrante.
    Cet homme-là, Romain Gary qui a écrit ce roman sur l'improbable amour d'un jeune Algérien pour une vieille Juive m'a littéralement ébloui. Un roman d'amour comme on n'en a jamais lu d'autres, à la fois tragique et d'une drôlerie qui vous fera pleurer de rire. Cet homme-là mérite qu'on se souvienne de lui et qu'on lise tout ce qu'il a écrit. Romain Gary qui avait été honoré de son deuxième Goncourt pour ce roman écrit sous le pseudonyme d'Émile Ajar, était un humain comme on aimerait qu'il en existe plus. LISEZ CE ROMAN EXTRAORDINAIRE. Laissez-le vous toucher, vous émouvoir, vous pénétrer. INOUBLIABLE. UNIQUE. ESSENTIEL.

Roman Gary submitted this book under a pseudonym - Emile Ajar. This book is wonderful because it also is easy to read for not very advanced French speakers. The translation- A Life Before Us - is an excellent translation for non French speakers.
