The Four Cornerstones of Victorinox
The various tools of a Swiss Army Knife are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. Every knife embodies our four cornerstones: quality, functionality, innovation and iconic design.

Functionality
The Swiss Army Knife is the ultimate multi-tool. Whether you need a magnifying glass to read fine print or a metal saw to cut through iron, the Swiss Army knife has your back. In addition to a blade, these gadgets include various implements such as screwdrivers, bottle openers, and scissors.

Innovation is our Tradition
Innovation is our tradition and has been ever since we patented the first Swiss Army Knife in 1897. Here in the Swiss Knife Valley, we take lumps of molten steel and blend with generations of experience to forge knives which are loved all over the world. As we continue to find new ways to improve our knives we also strive to apply better solutions that meet new requirements and our customers unarticulated needs.

Iconic Design
In 1891 Karl Elsener, the owner of Victorinox, was under contract by the Swiss Army to produce a folding pocket knife to be suitable for use by soldiers for opening canned food and disassembling the Swiss service rifle. Elsener invented a special spring mechanism allowing him to attach the tools on both sides of the handle, using the same spring to hold the tools in place. This innovative design meant Elsener could put twice as many features on the knife, which included a blade, a second smaller cutting blade, reamer, can-opener, screwdriver, corkscrew, and wood fiber grips. The Swiss Army Knife is the most recognizable icon of utility and smart design, and the knives are still made exclusively in only two factories in Switzerland.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 24, 2025Verified PurchaseGreat knife, comes extremely sharp. The knife blade locks in solid when open, and closes by pushing the Swiss army shield, which is actually a button, to release/close the blade. Very cool
- Reviewed in Canada on October 22, 2024Verified PurchaseThis is my daily carry. Use it multiple times a day, mostly the blade, but sometimes the flat and Philips screw driver, even used the can opener in a pinch. Dependable, never fails.

- Reviewed in Canada on August 26, 2022Verified PurchaseDisliked that the knife package was all banged up and opened before I received it: The seals had lint/cardboard on them. The awl appears to have been used and has damage on its previously factory sharp edge. The lock on the main blade has a very slight bit of movement to it but not a deal breaker. It is after all, a pocket knife and not a solid tang belt knife. The red ABS and rubberized black of the scales I am suspicious of: Rubber overmolding in my view is not desireable on any tool. Aside from these issues, it came reasonably sharp and stropping it with compound on leathermade the edge very sharp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great camping/survival knife
Verified PurchaseThis Ranger 78 is very much a workhorse. It's not subtle. It just gets stuff done. The grip is pretty awesome. The blade itself is large, sturdy, and holds an edge particularly well for a SAK. It's also a locking blade, which is unusual for SAKs, but quite nice. The release is opened via depressing the actual SAK symbol on the handle. I've used this blade for general camp tasks. The one hand open grip is nice, btw The saw is pretty efficient. It's definitely built for durability over flexibility, but is also very sharp and can chew through wood. Unlike the saw on the mid sized SAKs, this one is large enough to get enough friction to not really grab too much when sawing. As a rule, if the wood is similar to or smaller in diameter than the blade is long, this saw will work like a champ. The back can be used with a fire steel as well. The driver/can opener/bottle opener/wire stripper duo is a classic and always useful. This one also features the awl, an all around great drill, which is probably how you'll use it. And, an actual philips head. The angle can maybe be awkward, but it's a great tool. The toothpick and tweezers pretty much stay where they are. Without modifying the inside of the scales, you won't be able to add something like a Tortoise Gear fire steel. They just don't fit all the way. Anyway, this is my, 'I plan to be out hiking/camping for a while, and/or in more remote areas' addition to my kit as well as something I'll take on construction sites with me. Very versatile in a few settings

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you Need nothing you don't
Verified PurchaseWhile this not my favorite EDC knife as it it just too big and heavy for that task it is always with me when ever I go hiking or camping. Victorinox have done an excellent job designing a multifunction knife that will truly meet almost any need you might have in an outdoor setting.
The knife blade locks in place and is 3 3/4" long. It is thick enough for lite batoning yet the blade will still allow you to perform more delicate and precise carving and crafting tasks. The saw is long enough and has very aggressive teeth so you can actually cut through wood effectively. The Philipps head and standard screwdrivers are useful. The can opener works as does the bottle opener and wire stripper. You even get a useable pair of tweezers and a toothpick. The Awl is very sharp and works well.
The downsides are few but include the lack of scissors and a rounded back edge on the knife that won't work with a Ferrocerium rod. The back of the saw handles this task well as long a you keep the rod near the knife body and not out at the tip as the saw does not lock in place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome knife. Great size, Great grip. Just the right tools. Looks and feels Great.
Verified PurchaseMost of my carry knives are carbon steel rather than stainless, but who doesn’t want a Swiss Army knife? But so many of these are novelty knives, or some compact secondary carry multitools. Not this one. This has quickly become one of my favourite EDC knives.
This model is configured similarly to the actual Swiss Army issue, and the size and grip feel good in the hand, are really useful. The grip is particularly nice. Not a lot of novelty tools on this. I find even the tooth pick and the tweezers hand to have around when doing fine work. The saw is large enough to actually be useful. I also find myself going for this knife when I need a quick screwdriver, which actually surprised me. The four inch blade is sturdy and just what I need in the field. Actually, the only common multitool item I feel like I am missing out on is pliers. But all such multitools are compromises, and this one works for me. Maybe a Leatherman Squirt would be sufficient as to round it out, but even if they offered this knife with pliers I wouldn’t want them as it would ruin the grip and feel of the knife. The one quibble I have is the knife locking mechanism. It is super sturdy, and that is the most important thing, but a bit clumsy to release to close the knife. Really a minor quibble for an awesome knife. I am very happy with it.
