- Reviewed in Canada on June 28, 2025Verified PurchaseThe Victor M144-2B is top quality rat trap but is no good for mice, to make it more sensitive to trip add a light film of silicone grease to the latch this way they only get a smell and not a taste. but watch your fingers
- Reviewed in Canada on June 16, 2025Verified PurchaseThese work extremely well and are very solid. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 28, 2025Verified PurchaseFinally the cure to rat infestations. First trap i set got 2 giant rats at once! Every trap has been a success. Clean kills with no mess. Can handle the biggest of rats & if set with a peanut + peanut butter will catch even the cleverest rats in a few minutes or couple hours.

There is a rat problem in my neighborhood. Placed the traps in front of the rat hole underneath the fence. Got triggered several times, bait gone, but no rat caught. I thought maybe the trap moved and the rat escaped. Nailed it to a board, put it back in front or the hole. Same thing happened, the bait is gone but the rat escaped. I switched back to the old fashion Victor wooden rat trap and they worked.
Those ones were a waste of money for me. They look lethal and effective but the rats were laughing at me while feasting on peanut butter...
- Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2024Verified Purchase....not as good as the Tomcat brand.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 25, 2024Verified PurchaseWill update the stars with time if and when it breaks. Seems to be web built. Peanut butter in the middle section just fill it up works well.
Also caught a running rat - 2 rats were fighting and one got its leg stuck it seems. So it is quick action.
Skun also got the taste of it and didnt show up again later at night.. was worried it will stick to their face or nose and they will run away with the trap. However have noticed there are 2 holes as well at the base you can use to secure them in place, which I plan to do and put some wood underneath or figure out how to use the holes to secure it from getting taken away by a bigger rodent like racoon etc. so thats good to see to be honest on the trap. You can secure it to your deck board or some other way with those two holes at the end.
Not sure how many times they will work, plastic latching mechanism seems like it will break first. But not putting these in the sun so less uv damage chances.
Will update the stars if and when it breaks I guess. For $6 a piece unit not too bad, especially for those big rats. Have 4 big ones in the yard that are expanding their family, got 2 so far lets see when the other 2 get caught.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 11, 2025Verified PurchaseWorks great! Using it on large squirrels and it kills them instantly. Very impressed

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on rats and chipmunks, more easily and safely than traditional traps
Verified PurchaseThis is a huge upgrade over the standard wooden base rat traps. With the deep bait cup it's much easier to bait. I did learn that it's better to put just a tiny bit of bait deep in the very bottom of the bait holder, because it forces the rat (or chipmunk) to really stick their face in, which positions them perfectly for the kill bar. When the bait holder is completely full, it's possible for them to get a quick lick and still escape, even if they trigger the trap. It's also MUCH easier to cock the trap, without risk to the fingers

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast setting, fast killing, effective and easy to use.
Verified PurchaseI hate trapping rats as they're really amazing little animals, but you know, when they start chewing on your car's wiring or ripping things apart in the garage, well, they simply have to go.
These traps really fast and kill quickly. They're quite strong.
They're absolutely reusable and the bait trays are very well designed, allow for the application of professional baits such a hazlenut/walmut paste. I even add a few drops of walnut oil and it really draws the ratties in.
I no longer use peanut butter as it dries out very quickly and loses it's odor. The nut paste baits are perfect for these traps.
While the rats won't recommend these traps, I certainly do!

1.0 out of 5 stars They don’t last long.
Verified PurchaseThese traps work well until they have snapped shut a few times without catching anything. The trigger latch then becomes useless and you can’t reset the trap. I had this experience with three of these traps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Norway Rats in my garden -know what you’re up against.
Verified PurchaseSome tips from my research & catching 2 Norway rats this week:
Rats are extremely intelligent and adaptable. After first kill, they learned to eat bait from sides without snapping the trap. An early poster built a wooden box around his trap which he said was very effective. I’ll be trying something similar tonight. I’ve only seen 2 come through my yard and hope that’s it. However research shows if you see one there’s a minimum of 5 rats in a well hidden burrow. They have teeth which never stop growing hence they chew through wood and even concrete. I suspect the extremely heavy rains this last winter loosened the ground under my concrete patio. They could be burrowed under there but I don’t know for sure. They also make homes under patio decking or areas with leaves or debris outside.
I do not have them in my house and want to keep it that way.
Do not handle traps without disposable gloves on. Rats can pick up your scent and will avoid the trap if you don’t wear gloves.
Place the trap up against a wall outdoors where you think they may be running.
Last night I blocked the sides and back of trap with bricks and caught one. It’s neck was broken same as other one I caught which is a quick death.
Other trap I set had nothing around it so they just ate the bait without triggering it. Smart rats.
Forget the poison and other methods. Rats remember what it tastes like and avoid it.
Rats are most active about 30 to 120 minutes after dusk and 30 minutes before sunrise. They also mate just after dark and have a short gestation period. Norway rats outdoors have an average lifespan of just 1 year but can live as long as 3 years. Summer and fall are their high breeding season.
They are attracted to water and food sources. Can only see about 3 feet in front of them but have other extremely heightened senses. Especially from their whiskers.
It’s good to know what you’re dealing with. These traps do work. The kill bar probably could hurt your finger badly if it was stuck.
I’m also going to try the tunnel traps with kill bar. The electric ones are way too expensive.
I have reused these traps. Wear gloves, drop dead rat in bag, seal & toss in trash. Then clean with Clorox spray. Let dry in the sun.
Bait I used was peanut butter mixed with wet dog food. Worked well even after multiple uses.
Hope this helps.
