Enzymes for your Septic
Septic systems require proper care. I take care to limit grease, and anything that should not go in there. I’ve used natural enzyme products before in my septic so that the system can “digest” the solids. Healthy septics thrive on good bacteria to do a good job. This kit has 12 individually wrapped packets of enzymes to add to your toilet once per month. A whole year’s worth. The packets have quite a bit of fragrance added to them. The package it comes in didn’t close well after opening so I ended up using elastics around the package to contain the tiny packets and the fragrance. The packets look as if they are plastic, so I tested them to make sure they dissolved. They did, as evidenced by the pictures which is the packet and nothing else! This is essentially a supplement for your septic system and I have no idea whether it’s doing its thing. I hope it is. These can also be used for camping in RVs or in boats. If you are frequently emptying your tanks, a packet would be fairly pricey. For dry camping, they would be good and the fragrance should help to tame odour especially in hot conditions.

    I got these for the cottage because it runs on a septic system out at the lake and there is, of course, a septic tank as part of that. It is, of course, impossible to tell whether a product like this is working as advertised right away since you can't just pop open the septic tank to take a look. However, the part about the odour did start working right away. There wasn't a really bad odour but there was a noticeable odour and we did notice that shortly after we popped the first monthly packet of this Vacplus treatment down the toilet, the odour disappeared.

    The simplicity of simply tossing one packet per month down the toilet is a huge benefit of this product. It is nice not to have to deal with any fuss or muss or bother. No mixing, no splashing, no measuring. Just toss a packet in the toilet and flush it down. Or cut the packet open and empty into the toilet if you prefer. Either way, very simple and it's only once a month so it's easy to remember too.

    As for whether the product is doing as advertised in terms of cleaning the septic tank by breaking down and dissolving waste and paper, well only time will tell but I did look up the ingredients that are in this product and they appear to be exactly the right stuff to do that kind of job.

    I saw that another reviewer wrote that there was no ingredient list but there is a list on the package that I received, so perhaps that is something that the manufacturer has since added. In any event, the ingredients are mostly enzymes (three different ones that break down different types of molecules: proteins, triglycerides, and complex carbohydrates) plus magnesium sulphate (which is essentially epsom salt) so these are all useful for the intended purpose.

    I am looking forward to testing the efficacy of this stuff when when the "honey truck" comes in the spring to empty out the septic tank. At that time, I will be able to ask them how it looks and what they think. But in the meantime, the odour is definitely gone (not masked but gone) so something is certainly working already and that bodes very well for the spring time results.

    My father used to buy products like this all the time when I was a kid and not once did he ever have to have the septic tank pumped out. I believe stuff like this works well in that regard.

    When I saw a year supply on 鶹 I figured it was time I started using something like this to prolong having to clean out the septic tank.

    The good thing with these are they are super easy to use. Drop them into the toilet bowl and flush them down. The downfall is, depending on the flow of your toilet they may not flush. That was the issue I was having. These can be flushed without having to remove the powder from the packaging as the packaging dissolves once it's in water but my specific issue was the the air pocket in the packaging. It had enough air in it that it was preventing me from being able to flush it down, so I had to wait for it to dissolve in the toilet bowl and then flush it down. Next time, I will just open up the package and dump the contents in and flush it that way.

    That's the only issue I encountered with this product. I like the thoughts of just tossing a package of sewage cleaner for the lack of a better term into your toilet and flushing it down and it just goes to work.
