    The VRIG universal phone holder does a good job of holding your smartphone for mounting to a selfie stick or other base with a Gopro type mounting mechanism. I wanted something secure to mount my Iphone5 for time lapse videos of my plants growing. The mount just barely fits the smaller Iphone5 form factor, and you have to collapse the grips all the way, but it does securely hold the phone. The rubber contact pads are angled inwards to keep the phone from slipping out with movement. You need to press down on the ratcheted arms to ensure the rubber pads compress a little bit and grip the edges of the phone to keep it secured.

    Once mounted, you can rotate the phone to change from landscape to portrait orientation, but the movement is very stiff and you use quite a bit of force to do that. I would like to have had an additional screw down tensioning mechanism to hold the phone in place instead of relying on the ratcheting mechanism alone to give it more security and allow you to control the pressure on the phone. The securing arms are narrow enough to allow the phone to be held while avoiding pressing the side buttons.

    This phone holder is not perfect, but does a decent job of securing the phone to a Gopro mount and holding it reasonably well. For the price, I would like to have seen a tripod mount included compatible with standard mounting threads.
