I find VCE tools and components can be a bit hit and miss, but these are an absolute hit. I used these recently to wire some POE cameras on the side of my home and they worked great.

The good:
- These things are compact: Included bananas for scale to show how really small this tool is. Easy to carry with you as you climb into tight spots
- The lock works great: These have a manual lock that keeps them closed when you need them out of the way, and it works great every time
- Wiring standards: Printing the A and B wiring standards right above the opening makes it really hard to mess up wire order
- Extra blades: VCE knows the blades won't last forever and has included a replacement set should they ever dull
- Perfect cuts: These cut through my passthrough wires great the first time, every time

The less good?
- The lock: While the manual lock is fantastic, it's almost too effective, making it hard to release on occasion

Overall, I'd highly recommend this specific VCE crimper. It does everything my usual Klein Tools unit does, does those things well, and does it at less than half the price.

I was looking for a pass through RJ45 crimping tool to have on hand for a business I support and seem to be regularly replacing plug ends and all I can say is that I am not disappointed in this $30 purchase, it far exceeded my expectations.

The cut/strip blade worked flawlessly on Cat6 cable, but struggled on some older Cat5 cable that is smaller in diameter. Not a big deal, I simply held the cat5 against the blade and gave a quick turn of the tool to score the jacket.

My first few plugs were a bit tough to insert, the issue was easily corrected by making sure the body of the plug was touching the top of the die while inserting. There is a recessed rail, that I did not notice and the front of the plug was catching on it.

The RJ45 plugs when fully inserted, sit flush against the blade, making nice clean cuts on the wires and the die also has a guide/retainer to prevent the blade from flexing away from the plug to ensure a flush cut.

Crimping took no strenuous effort on either the cat6 or cat5 cables.

Bonus on this crimper is that it does not crush the retaining clip down like my two crimpers I have at work and there is a locking pin to lock the handle down while not in use.

Only improvement I could see on this crimper is a blade that could be slid down to allow crimping of non pass through plugs.

Great crimps, poor lock placement

I really dislike impact/ratchet networking tools, so to find a nice little manual crimp like this one was great! Almost everything about it is a win for me.

1. The location of the crimp at the heel of the tool is a nice change from it being at the toe end of conventional crimps.
2. The wire stripper is great! Works really well and allows you to manage your own pressure for different cable depths.
3. The wire cutter is alright, but it's a little deep in the tool (in the middle) to be able to cut the wires easily, and it's a little narrow. If the blade was a little longer, and it was at the edge of the tool, it would be easier to use.
4. The lock button is in a horrible location. Normally, with this style of tool, the lock is simply a metal hoop that loops around the heel end of the handles to keep them together. But with this unit, there is a little button, right where your pointer finger naturally sits. So every time you crimp, you run the risk of locking the tool, which is really frustrating. If that lock was either moved, or simply not there, this tool would be way better.

By and large, for the money and for the function, it's a great buy. I would just make a couple little tweaks to make it better. Great job!
