I had to replace a similar wine bottle opener when, after several years of use, the mechanism finally failed and could not be repaired. This unit is perhaps not as fancy, but it works exactly as advertised! The learning curve was straight forward and it opens wine bottles almost effortlessly. The cutter to remove the top foil or plastic shrink wrap on the wine bottle also seems to work well. The reason I gave only 4 stars for 'giftable' is that the opener arrived without any packaging except for a soft-sided paper envelope - something that I don't think you could pass on. Nevertheless, you could put it in another box, wrap it, and gift it, and the recipient would not be disappointed! Similarly, for sturdiness, it seems fairly robust, but time will tell if it is as sturdy as other similar models. If you are looking for an inexpensive, functional, and attractive wine bottle opener, this is it!
