Product description
THE MIXER WITH UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES has a powerful bottom drive motor that offers 4 speeds and a momentary switch for the ultimate ease of use. Suction cup feet keep this mixer stable while mixing, kneading, or whipping during those tough jobs. Create any recipe you desire is no problem thanks to 20+ accessories designed specifically for all types of food. Why switch to Universal Plus? The Bosch Universal's reputation of quality began in 1952. You can rely on your Bosch Mixer. The Bosch kitchen mixer is uniquely designed with its motor beneath the bowl, making it more compact and lightweight. Dual wire whips create a triple whipping action and allow you to whip as little as one egg white into over a cup of meringue. The NutriMill Cookie Paddles (sold separately) are perfect for creaming butter and mixing medium to thick batters and cookie doughs. The NutriMill Cake Paddles (sold separately) thoroughly mix pourable batters or light mixtures without incorporating too much air. Ideal for quick breads, muffins, and pancakes which can become tough and chewy if over-mixed. The heavy-duty dough hook is designed to mimic the motions of hand kneading to stretch, tuck, and fold the dough for maximum gluten development, kneading 100% of the dough every 4 rotations around the bowl. With the included dough hook extender, you can knead as little as one loaf of bread (3 cups flour) or up to 14 1-pound loaves, with either white or whole grain flour. The powerful belt-driven transmission delivers adequate torque to knead light or heavy loads without overheating or bogging down. The dough hook can mix up to 34 dozen cookies in a batch. Four suction feet on the base grip the mixer to your counter for optimum stability. Choose from 4 speeds with pulse. Convenient cord storage. Many optional accessories and attachments are available to purchase separately for increased functionality, such as a blender, meat grinder, citrus juicer, food processor, slicer/shredder, pasta maker, a

5.0 out of 5 stars Well thought out mixer, a refined version of the original Universal. Good for 10lbs of dough.
Verified PurchaseI ordered this to compare to my vintage Bosch (the original version of this mixer) from the 70s. This is pretty similar to that old Bosch with the following improvements:
-suction cup feet so the mixer doesn't walk around (or off) the counter while kneading dough
-a bowl with a lip to surround the lid ring (this prevents the lid from popping off on large batches)
-the bowl edge is turned down like a little umbrella which gives improved gripping for transport
The motor of both the old and new is of similar power. I find it to bog down more than I prefer with large batches (above 7 lbs) of dough. I've made up to 5200g (11.2 lbs) of dough in this mixer and it will do it but it's a strain on the motor.
One other drawback (or advantage depending on how you prefer to proof your dough) is that this mixer really heats up the dough. It'll go from 65 or 70F up to 110F in 7 minutes of kneading. I personally prefer to keep the dough at room temp. A work around is to add ice to the water to knock the temp down before hand. So, although I don't like the heating, it's something that can be dealt with.
I will be returning the mixer and instead ordering a stainless bowl for my old Bosch mixer. I believe it may help with this heating issue. Additionally, it does away with the center column for a little more space for dough (about 200 additional grams). I ordered this mainly to compare and see if it was worth upgrading. I think the refinements are probably worth the price difference. But I instead am going to put that cost difference toward a stainless bowl and the drive/dough hook to match ($350 new just for this bowl and accessories!).
I'd used a 1981 Kitchenaid by Hobart for years and although an excellent mixer, the Bosch is also good product with a proven long lifespan. The Bosch can make 2x the amount of dough and the lid system is a lot cleaner than the open bown of the Kitchenaid.
I highly recommend ANY Bosch Universal Mixer!

5.0 out of 5 stars It’s a Bosch!
Verified PurchaseI am so glad I finally pushed to purchase button. I have a professional Kitchenaid mixer, however I really like using the Bosch. It is quiet and is able to hold a large amount like my Kitchenaid. I paid more for the K itchenaid so I would say this Bosch is a great value for money. I love how easy it is to add ingredients to the bowl and it has a lid to completely cover it so flour does not go all over kitchen. I was impressed with how easy to use, and easy to clean. There are several different attachments and it works well. My opinion is you can’t go wrong with this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mixer for bread making!
Verified PurchaseI have been using my Bosch for making bread dough. It works great and prefer it to the kitchenaid I used previously. It’s much easier to add ingredients to the bowl while mixing. Quality seems to be outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars The good and bad of this behemoth
Verified PurchaseI've had this for a few months now and I've used it several times. There are PRO'S and cons to replacing a kitchenaid "type" mixer with this.
PROS: the size is unreal. It's huge. The motor is so powerful I highly doubt you'll ever need beyond speed 1 [but there are several speeds faster]. It has a rim shield AND a wide disc to remove/add during mixing to add components IE more water to a dough or addins like chips or nuts. This baby is SOLID.
Cons: its..well huge. If you're making one batch of cookies I almost suggest you use the mixmaster to spin your dough. Also-DO NOT PUT THIS IN THE DISHWASHER!!!! You must wash it by hand. It's just plastic. I guarentee you, it will warp. I make a lot of sourdough. BUT I miss the kitchenaid dough hook, I just wish the old unit didnt die on me. Was it worth the price? yeah if you're a professional baker and make double/triple batches of everything.
