    I purchased this because I have had back surgery and that has made it difficult for me to reach the ground to pick things up. It's a great tool, works well and you can adjust the way the tongs are. Unfortunately, I find it rather heavy and somewhat difficult to close. I am 34 years old with a pretty decent grip, but after a half hour of using this to clean up, my hand hurts. I wouldn't suggest it for an elderly person to use on a constant basis, but it can be used here and there, as my 4 year old can use it once or twice. That being said, it picks up pretty much anything, piece of paper, earring, your keys, even a dime. Great if you have the hand strength or just need it every once in awhile.
