I bought this model in spite of the Jan 15 review talking about the ball and socket. Now that I have it I like everything about it. It is doing what I want - put the phone in a good spot for viewing maps hands free.

Regarding the ball and socket - the trick is to not completely remove the nut before you snap in the ball. If you leave the nut on a couple of threads, then snap in the ball, it will tighten properly. If you take the nut right off, it is almost impossible to get it back on without cross threading. Till I assembled it this way I had the same issue as "Nomdeplum".

Also there is a spot at the bottom for the charging cord if your phone is plugged in to charge.
