Darian WilliamsReviewed in the United States on January 22, 20265.0 out of 5 stars G1 Look Accomplished But Could Have Done More
Verified PurchaseThis Transformers Studio Series 86 Thundercracker accomplishes the G1 look wonderfully in both modes. It looks marvelous; however, there are some things where the figure doesn’t go far enough. This is a great figure overall, but the figure seems hampered by budgetary constraints in areas despite the higher price point.
This figure would have been better if it had more heft to it, more weight. The plastic feels thinner comparatively to other voyagers. There are two panels on the figure’s back that “hotdog bun” around the nose cone of the jet as it’s tucked away in robot mode. These panels are thinner than I would prefer and may become distressed over time.
The large wings only rotate in place and have wing tips which tab in. I don’t understand why the large wings weren’t molded complete as a single piece. Continuing with the large wings, they don’t separate from the main figure nor have any angular articulation for robot mode. This leaves the figure far less expressive than it could have been.
The rear vertical and horizontal wings do tab in and are quite nicely done. These can tab into the side of the legs and stay as in jet mode or can be tabbed onto the back of the jet wings to achieve the accurate G1 look. These rear wings on the legs in robot mode act as an extended heel spur if you decide to use them that way.
Use the instructions the first time at least. The transformation resembles that of the original G1 era figure with modern advances. However, there are some important differences which if incorrectly transformed can damage the figure. There is a locking tab which holds the bottom of the robot chest in place and keeps it from rising away between the lateral parts of the torso.
Some additional jet mode attributes would have completed this mode much better. The jet mode does have a pull down front landing gear but the jet mode sets on the robot feet folded forward. Some flip around rear rolling wheels would have been nice. There is also a huge gap in the remnant of the robot chest in jet mode. It’s on the bottom of the jet so it doesn’t really create an eyesore. This gap may be used to house the heads of the conehead seekers if they retool this mold in the future.

Darth HaywocReviewed in the United Kingdom on March 13, 20265.0 out of 5 stars They Seek(er) him here, they Seek(er) him there!
Verified PurchaseBeen waiting for this since it first got announced. It was consistently out of stock to pre-order but managed to drop on with a pre-order price of £25 (which became £15 thanks to 鶹 not fulfilling my Soundwave pre-order and giving me £10 credit for the inconvenience!). Honestly this is my favourite figure of my collection thus far out of 30-odd across SS86, AotP and some of the Legacy/Generations figures.
In robot mode he looks more or less identical to his on-screen counterpart. In alt mode when viewed from the top *chefs kiss* - amazing! When looking at him from underneath there are a few gaps (chiefly from where the fuselage sits in robot mode) but nothing deal breaking for me. Transformation process is similar to some of the G1 Seekers but with some modernisation due to the animation-accurate styling and is easy enough to move between the two modes. Just need Skywarp (pre-ordered) and the inevitable Starscream versions of the mold now!
