These hinges were designed by sloppy engineers who probably never used them in their life. They are not mirror images so they don't fit the same on either side of the box. The instructions are total crap - lots of pictures that tell you a whole lotta nothin'. Had to play around with them for a long time constantly assembling and disassembling the screw attachments. The angle of the openining is solely dependant on where the hinges are screwed into place (not by adjustment). Finally the tension sucks because I have a heavy lid and it's very hard to close at first, but by the bottom the lid slams down. Adjusting the tension didn't solve this issue. Waste of money.

The absolute worst instructions in the entirety of the universe. After you actually receive the item, new instructions are emailed to you and they are contradictory to the ones on the package. Their suggested measurements are way off and if you install according to these numbers, it just won't work. The threads on the bolts are cross threaded, the plastic bushings don't fit in the holes as the holes were not drilled correctly. Overall cheap quality. I wish I had the hour back trying to make these work. Garbage they go, not worth the aggravation of sending them back.

I would call these supports and not soft closures. Even when the adjustment is cranked super tight, the lid to the cedar chest I put them on would still slam shut after 45 degrees. And with the adjustment super tight, it was difficult to get the lid back to the full open position. Also they came with plastic bushing which are not pictured. The limited instructions make no mention of the bushing which I had to press in place with my shop vise. Again, good for holding up a 25 pound lid but not a soft closure.

With these supports the lid opens without restriction and stays open. It closes when you pull it closed and can be adjusted so it will not close on its own. I took one apart accidently ( I don't recommend this) and was impressed with the mechanism. They have very little to wear out and should last for a very long time. The install instructions are a little tricky: be sure to pay attention to the points of measurement. One side is the hole in the bracket; the other side is the pivot on the support - not the bracket.
