Thus Spake Zarathustra, (A Book for All and None), by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, was originally published in German between 1883-1891, and this edition in English, as translated by Thomas Common was first published in 1917. The work is a philosophical novel by the German philosopher and philologist. Dealing with the notions of the eternal recurrence, the death of God, and the prophecy of the Übermensch. Much of which was conceived whilst writing The Gay Science. The book chronicles the fictitious travels and speeches of a Zarathustra, different from the original founder of Zoroastrianism, this new Zarathustra turns morality on its head, going on to characterise the "first immoralist".

I only came back to write a very positive review because of all of the abysmal Nietzsche printings of the other books out there. Wow, I had no idea how many people have taken this man's writings and used amazon printer to capitalize on it. Anyways, if you're contemplating buying this book then contemplate no further, buy it. It's mint. The pages, the size, the hardcover, the font, all of it.
The book itself is fantastically written, but I am specifically speaking to the physical copy. Other decent Nietzsche books as well-made are very difficult to find (I haven't found one as nice).

This is probably not a book you should start reading Nietzsche with but I'm still going to recommend it as such to all of my friends. I bought this for a good friend of mine who just started at Oxford University in the UK. He recently lost his father and as you can imagine that has been quite difficult. This book seriously helped him put his whole life into perspective (and mine as well). The lessons and messages in this book are so profound that I would consider it a sort of philosophical bible. That is of course the intention of the author; to have this protagonist go through the world with a different twist yet same manner as Jesus. Along the way he learns lessons and makes assertions about people, about reality, about society, about philosophy that simply drill right down to the core of what it means to exist and be alive. This can be a remedy to those who currently find themselves disoriented and finding it hard to find direction or meaning in life. This book is full of hope, full of power, and quite possibly my favorite book of all time.

The book is great, personally I prefer the Gay Science, but this is a great book for beginners to Nietzsche. The first complaint I have is that the book is rather small, about the length of my hand when fully extended. And the font they use is pretty large, so if you're concerned about the font size, you will most likely be fine. The other complaint I have is that the text looks sort of unprofessional, as though they photocopied the text onto the pages, but these complaints aren't very big, and won't particularly affect your experience. Overall, great addition to my philosophy collection.

    Hi there!

Despite being pretty hard to understand to newcomers, this is my favorite Nietzshe book so far. Unlike Beyond good and evil, which is extremely difficult stuff unless you are already familiar with Shopenhauer, Kant, Plato and various others philosophers, Zarathustra can be easily understood if you are familiar with Nietzshe's main ideas. The notes included at the end help understands the most obscure parts. Most of the book is written as a satire of the bible, meaning you will follow the adventures of Zarathustra as he encounters various persons, and Nietzshe's ideas are represented by those interactions. You will discover concepts of the will to power, the overman (or superman), the worth of solitude, transcendance, opinions on other system such as christianity or socialism, and a lot of other interesting stuff. Althought I disagree with Nietzshe's vision of women (of course) and his portrayal of pity and charity, I still like to discover the thoughts of great thinkers like him, not to mention that his ideas of transcendence and self growth are pretty neat.

definitely recommended, along with The antichrist and twilight of the idols.

Nietzsche has been said to be one of the greatest influances on modern philosophy, especially the existentialist movement and Zarathustra shows the reader just why he was a large influance. Nietzsche's works are truly like no ohter writer's, however, his philosophy seemed to be ignorant and sexist at times to myself, but none the less I do feel that everyone should read some of Nietzsche's works (or any philosopher's works for that matter). I do enjoy Nietzsche's argument against modern Christianity and the herd mentaility of the masses, but I think those two things would have to be my favorite philosophical views of Nietzsche. I give this book and Nietzsche in general, three stars because, while he will be an influance and is a good read, his philosophy is not the greatest at many points and is often misunderstood by people.
