Really great throttle for the money. I have many, I've collected HOTAS since the days of the 286 PC, my primary throttles being the Warthog and of course the CH Throttle. I've had several CH Throttles since the gameport and USB models have been out, and IMO this throttle is really the only stand alone competitor to the CH as of right now. Every other decent throttle comes with a stick, although you can now buy the WH throttle by itself, it's usually $300 after shipping. This is under $60 right now, and does a great job, the buttons are all a bit more positive than the CH IMO, the tension screw is a phillips head which works well too. The slider for rudder pedals will be great for those who liked the old Saitek sticks like their X36, X45, etc, which had a rudder bar as well. Some prefer this to pedals or twisty sticks, and brings back that option, or you can use it for an analogue slider instead for something else like radar azimuth/whatever.

The hand sits in a different position on this unit than on the CH, and the slider moves accurately and to full throw/zero in all the Win10 flight sims I tried it with, which is essentially all of the majors and many of the minors. It sits very low, and has a slightly wider footprint than the CH unit, but otherwise the size is comparable.

This unit is 1/2 the cost of a CH throttle, and is every bit as good.

I bought this throttle to add to my dual-joystick and rudder setup from Thrustmaster, and it incorporates easily into the control scheme. The build quality is not top of the line, but everything works well enough for my needs. It is very comfortable, the ergonomics are great and I have no difficulty with advanced helicopter flight in DCS. I find the buttons are especially well situated, and they provide ample control options for my combat helicopters.

The best aspect of the T16000 platform controls, including this throttle and the TWCS rudder pedals, is how easily they can be customized using the TARGET programming software. With some games, controller support is limited, and the software allows me to work around it without sacrificing anything.

I was able to make the sliding throttle action very smooth by removing the bottom plate and lubricating the metal slides with silicone ceramic brake lubricant - you can also do this with a bent cotton swab without removing the bottom. With this one simple modification, it is the perfect throttle at the best price. In combination with the dual joysticks and rudder pedals, this control setup can do just about anything. I use it also for space sims, and even operating farming simulator machines like forestry machines, excavators and bulldozers.

Great throttle and having all of the buttons makes DCS so much easier now. No more need to remember a million key strokes or take my eyes off the screen to hunt down the keys.

I had a slider dead zone and had to do a bit of DIY to fix it. Also, the throttle slide is not great.
    The buttons are great though.

The buttons placements are great, it's good conform but I started having issues with less than 15 days of use.

The rudder started to have issues with random spikes of input when using it. I had to introduce some dead zone to it to avoid getting random inputs. But after a few days, the spikes started to happen when using as well, which made its usage impossible. I was using as a throttle for my SRV in Elite Dangerous and the vehicle would get fast spikes of acceleration. I had to stop using it.

The throttle slice is good, but it would keep increasing the tension after some usage. So expect to have a screwdriver around to loosen the tension from time to time. I had to do it 3 times in the first 30 days of use.

Like you my cheap ass thought the thrustmaster x was going to be good enough but my impatient ass bought the 16000m at Walmart. After seeing the difference in quality looked everywhere for the throttle at the most reasonable price. Look no further

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent throttle for the price - a step up from my aging CH Products Throttle
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2017
    Verified Purchase
After a good 13 or so years, and with it still working fairly strongly, I reluctantly began a search to replace my CH Products Throttle. The free-form x/y access hadn't properly been reporting for a while, and the max and min on the z axis were a little shaky. Amazingly, I could actually still buy the exact same throttle from CH, but in the intervening years the resolution on the controllers means that you can get something that is that much more precise.

Enter the rolls-off-the-tongue Thrustmaster VG TWCS Throttle Controller. I got it at quite a discount off of the normal retail, which heavily swayed it in favor of a purchase. I'm not necessarily going to find myself in a situation needing to control the throttle of my two engines independently, so it being a single throttle was not an issue for me. Ideally it lasts the decade+ of the CH Products, but I'm not holding my breath. First, the good:

    * Can be used independently of the joystick (i.e. I'm using a CH Products joystick and rudder), with a note that you'll lose the ability to use most mapping software if your game doesn't support multiple joysticks (which hasn't been a problem for most games for years now, but worth a note)
    * Bevy of buttons, and it's enough to meet my needs flying DCS. (The pinky potentiometer really does wonders when trying to control radar elevation) Broadly speaking, the buttons are well placed and if your hand is in the right position, everything but the big orange thumb one can be accessed with ease. (In my setup, that gets mapped to TrackIR's centering, so doesn't get used a ton)
    * Like most modern joysticks, does >8 bit resolution on the axis elements, so you get a more fine grained control as you use whichever axis. It has made a great deal of difference on those Helicopter modules in DCS over my older throttle.
    * Orange accents means that I get more of my favorite color on my desk
    * Slide action is smooth, base is sturdy / weighty / grippy enough not to move around when you're in the heat of it. All of the axis controls are similarly tight and work well, smooth in action but otherwise staying firmly in place.

    Downsides:
    - Ergonomics could stand a bit of work. Compared to the CH Products Throttle, which required some Seinfeld "Man Hands" to operate all of the buttons effectively from resting position, from rest my hands only have a problem reaching the big orange "thumb" button on the right-hand side. Ergonomically, however, my hand doesn't naturally seem to find the proper placement - I have to really think about getting it lined up - which was the exact opposite of my experience with the CH Products. I haven't had any greater issues with long-term holding of the throttle than with the CH Products.
    - Slide action can be a little less than smooth if using it at the 'wrong' angle - and it's sometimes difficult to avoid that 'wrong' angle

All told this was a good purchase for the price I paid for it. Compared with my old throttle (the same model still being sold 13 years later), this was about half the price. The matching joystick really won't cut it for anything semi-serious, but this throttle is the gem of the set.
