5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Easy to Install
Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2025

I have Cadet 240v baseboard heaters (about 5 years old) and the manual thermostats typically need major adjustments whenever it's extremely cold outside. The swing on them is fairly extreme so getting a consistent even temp is frustrating at times. I live where it can get to -25⁰F in the winter so the constant adjusting gets to be a hassle.

I have multiple Meross products and have been looking at this thermostat for awhile now and I've been fortunate enough to join the Meross beta program. This will have no bearing on my review as I'm extremely critical of products I use.

This isn't the best time of the year to install a new T-stat to try out as my days of needed heat are getting short but hopefully I'll get a few days of use from it.

I know that these are for wall mounting but I have no easy way to do that without running new wires. So my plan was to install it where the old knob T-stat was directly on the heater. I did have to manufacture a mounting plate for it from a blank cover plate that was original to the heater. The installation process was very easy, it took me longer to make the mounting plate than it did to hook up the wires. Having it mounted near the floor, directly on the heater, seems to be working as it should.

The T-stat is well designed and looks good. The display is straight forward and easy to read. In the app you can adjust the display brightness for when it's in operation and also in standby. Being familiar with Meross products I didn't have much use for the included manual. After powering it on and opening the app, adding it and finding my network was very easy. Fortunately I'm an Android phone user so getting it added was simple compared to reviews from Apple users.

There are quite a few preferences that can be set in the app, swing, temp presets, temp calibration, and others. It is nice that in the app it gives you the humidity level. There are a plethora of Automation, Schedule, and Routine settings that can be programed, which I haven't yet gotten in to. So far I'm running it in manual mode. There are also presets which can be also be adjusted, Comfort, Sleep, and Economy, this is a nice feature. I noticed that in the app it also shows the outside temperature, I'm guessing it's getting this from my phone location, another nice feature.

The only drawback with the display is not seeing what the T-stat is set at until you manually adjust it, it only shows the current room temperature. This is kind of a "minus" as it would be nice to glance at the display to see what it's set at versus having to open the app.

I'll add again that it seems to be working as it should. This fall I'll have to update my review once cold weather arrives and heating season starts again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good looking, functional and reliable thermostat
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2025

My 30 year old house has electric baseboard heat, with a thermostat in each room, and some of the (original) honeywell thermostats have started going bad, either running the heat constantly or not at all, so I started looking for good replacements that also had smart home features - i.e. at a minimum an app that lets me control remotely from my android phone.

After a bit of research, I narrowed my choices down to this Meross model and the Mysa Lite. Mysa seems to be a better known brand, but the Meross seemed very similar and the price point was a bit better. I also found a YouTube installation video by Meross that was well done and informative, so I decided on Meross and bought two thermostats.

So far, this seems like a very good choice. The product was well packaged with a very brief (but well written) instruction booklet - but, as I said, more is available online if you need it. Since wiring has changed over the years, I had a bit of a hard time translating the conventions of the old thermostat to the new one, and it took a bit of trial and error to get the wiring right, but once I did everything else was smooth sailing. The thermostat lit up and the pairing and set up process was done intuitively through the smartphone app. The set up process was similar to other smart home apps that I've used from google, ring, kasa, etc.

The thermostat looks VERY NICE on the wall. Certainly much better than the one it replaced. The display is bright but not overly so, and although the controls are minimal, you can set the temperature and cycle through hold/eco/pre-programmed settings. Many more settings are available on the app.

I was also able with minimal effort to integrate the thermostat with google home, which is a plus since I have several other devices I control from there.

The first two thermostats have been deployed for a couple of months now, and no complains, they do what I need reliably and intuitively. At some point down the road I'll be buying more to replace the rest of the aging thermostats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works with electric baseboard 240v heating, powerful programming, needs better 'manual'
Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2024

UPDATE #2: Back to 4 stars from 5 stars. I make this change after four straight months of use. The system overall is still working great with one small but glaring issue with the app. For some reason, at least once a month on at least one of the three smart thermostats I installed, the daily energy use is not recorded at all which in turns throws off the entire energy calculation for the week/month. There is pattern as to which thermostat or which day this occurs but it's annoying as heck! Fix this and I'll bump it back up to 5 stars.

UPDATE: This is an update to the original review below. I have changed this to 5 stars from 4 since the 1-star ding I gave them in the original review below was for a lack of a decent manual that explains the features in detail. While this is still missing, the system itself is so powerful and relatively intuitive that I can't in good conscious take away a whole star. If I could I'd give it 4.5 stars. Anyway, I received two more of these yesterday and as expected, installation was a snap. Where the first unit took me a couple hours of mostly making sure I understood the proper wiring, I was able to install AND program the second AND third units in a half hour!

One other thing I have learned with regard to programming is a feature called 'Hold action'. This works with the 'Schedule' feature which allows you to set a linear temperature timeline where your desired temps are activated at preset times. In the 'Hold action' menu you can select from six options - four timed (1, 2, 4 & 8 hours), plus 'Until you change it' and 'Until the next scheduled activity'. What this option does is it allows you to change from Auto (Schedule) mode to manual but then if/when the mode changes back to Auto mode is based upon the 'Hold action' selection. In my case I selected 'Until the next scheduled activity' and that way I can change to manual mode but then it will automatically change back when the next temp/time change occurs in the 'Schedule'.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: We heat with a combination of different heating types including 240v electric baseboard heaters (USA). For a long time I wished there was a smart thermostat for these types of systems that was affordable and effective. The Meross Smart Thermostat is just that. It absolutely works wonderfully with this type of system. Installation was relatively easy and fast. The first took me a few hours mostly making sure everything was right because there were a lot more wires with the old manual, dual pole thermostat which has four wires. The Meross only has three. But once I realized that the three wire system would work exactly as the little 'manual' wiring diagram shows, everything went smoothly. I just ordered two more and those will install in a matter of minutes now that I know what I'm doing.

The programming ability of this system is really powerful. You can run the thermostat manually with either the app or at the thermostat control panel itself. The control panel is fairly self-explanatory once you familiarize yourself with the various icons as described in the 'manual'. The app is very intuitive for the most part. You can control the thermostat automatically a few ways. There are two 'modes' in the app - Manual and Auto. You can set 'Scenes' by building a temp profile where you dial in a desired temperature and then give it a name and save it. You can then manually run these Scenes via your phone app. You can then build 'Routines' where you basically automatically run the 'Scenes'. So, for instance on my system I have created three Scenes. Morning warm up where the thermostat is set to 72F, Daily running where the thermostat is set to 68F and then Sleep when the thermostat is set to OFF. Then I created Routines to launch each of those Scenes at the times I want them to run. You can also select any single, combo or all days to run. Although technically this is manual mode, running the Scenes with Routines effectively turns this into a hands-free, automatically running system.

Then there is the Auto mode which uses a linear 'Schedule' where you build a timeline manually with temperature variations at the desired times. Once you have done this you can select at each thermostat whether to run in either Manual (Routines/Scenes) or Auto (Schedule). They both basically do the same thing just differently. The key here is that if you make ANY manual changes to the thermostat whether via the app or the control panel, the mode gets changed/set to Manual mode. So if you want to run on the Schedule mode then you have to reactivate that. As a failsafe I just programmed the Auto Schedule mode to be the exact same as the Manual Routine/Scene mode so no matter which I'm in the results will be the same. The Manual/Auto mode differences are not explained anywhere at all in the 'manual'. I put 'manual' in the single quotes as it is a very small booklet with only the most basic of installation and operating instructions. Even on the website there is no better manual. However, there was a decent FAQ page where I was able to discern how the above differences work from submitted questions and answers there.

I'm giving 4 stars due to this lack of better explanation of features. I'm a read-the-whole-manual-twice kind of guy that loves to tinker and get the most out of cool, high-tech programmable stuff and the Meross 'manual' leaves much to be desired here. While I understand there is only room for a tiny installation and operation 'manual' to accompany the physical unit, there absolute should be a more detailed manual available and easy-to-find online. In truth I'd give them 4.5 stars since the system is so awesome compared to the manual thermostats I had but since my options are 4 or 5 I went with 4. I just ordered two more and I'll install them when they arrive in a few days and report back then if I have any updates. But for $79.99 (after 20% savings from $99.99), the feature set and powerful programming, not to mention the ability to monitor and manipulate your home's temperature from far away via the app makes this a great system. The ONLY other 240v line voltage electric baseboard smart thermostat system I could find is almost double the price at $155 and I definitely like the look and options of the Meross system much better, especially at half the price!

Finding a programmable, smart, wifi capable , attractive, wall-mount thermostat that can switch line voltages like 110v or 220v was a challenge. Out current use is unique, we now use it to run our small portable heater. But we look forward to installing this at our camp soon. The 4 pre programmable modes are very handy and they have symbols on the screen so you know which ones you activated with the 3-leaf clover-like button. 🍀 The schedule mode that looks like a stopwatch ⏱️ runs the program we set in the sliding menu. That takes a minute to figure out, but we found it intuitive after we tapped the edit button in the top right hand corner. The comfort mode has a symbol that looks lile the sun 🌞 and we use it as day mode. The wind symbol 🌬 is sleep mode, so you can easily switch temps for 😴 sleeping. The eco mode with the leaf symbol leaf 🌱symbol is what we use when we don’t want it to turn on, but we want to see the temperature🌡on the display (which we set to its brightest setting). We can easily read the temp from across the room on the high brightness setting.. The app is our favorite part, be cause we don't have to get up to change temperatures. It installed to our wifi easily, and is easy to operate. In bed, on the couch, traveling, wherever we have internet access, we can change settings on our phone. 📱 It has a feature for summer mode cooling but we haven't tried that yet. I guess it would let someone run an AC with fixed settings, a chiller, or any cooling system that runs on 110, or 220v. All and all, we are very pleased!

I bought this for a garage addition we recently built, the connecting breezeway from the house to the garage has electric baseboard heaters. The installation was fairly simple and easy to understand. The only issue I have is the automated schedule is a bit difficult to set up since it requires you to slide little circles up and down to set the temperature along a timeline. Hard to do on a phone screen. But all in all, it's a great thermostat.

UPDATE: Did not last the year. Installed in January, completely dead in October of the same year. I checked the power lines to the thermostat and they are live. No warranty info to follow up on. Lesson learned.
