At the beginning both my wife and myself were not sure if it can keep the temperature as expected. So we boiled a full pot of water and let it sit for 8 hours (overnight). Then measured the temperature of the water. Amazingly, the water was still 71.9c hot after sitting inside for 8 hours.
Seems like it cannot keep the temperature! After putting the inner pot with boiling soup into the outer pot for 6 hours, the temperature dropped a lot. That means it cannot keep on the cooking process.
I've had mine for a few years now, absolutely love it. I mostly use it to prepare large batches of rice & dried beans. Actual manual labour time is just long enough to bring to a boil. Then put the pot in the insulator & forget about it for a few hours, or go to bed. Cheap on electricity (esp. when I use the wood stove to get it to a boil!).
Also great for keeping preparations hot & safe when transporting (picnic, potluck, etc.)
5.0 out of 5 starsExpensive- worth it. Tried other brands.....

Glad I finally found the RPC-4500 cookers again. I've had one for years- and love it. Been searching for a second one. No where to be found in stores any longer. I did buy another brand... terrible by comparison (thin inner pot, poor fitting inner lid, non vacuum insulation). Bottom line, the Thermos /Nissan brand outperforms everything else. Used my Nissan/Thermos for a pot luck party two weeks ago. Cooked the food in the morning, put the inner pot inside it's outer pot @ 10:30am, and took it with me. I arrived at the pot luck party @ 7pm, and my dish was steaming hot, as though it was just cooked on the stove. Food was tender, tasty, and piping hot. This Thermos/Nissan beats the non vacuum thermal cooking pots hands down.
3.0 out of 5 starsDoesn't stay hot as long as it claims

It isn't bad, but I wish I had spent a little more and got a better one. I would stay warm for about five hours, if the food is very hot to begin with. It will finish cooking. I have only used it a few times for the reasons mentioned above, but will give it another chance.
I've had mine for ten years & it is still going strong. Currently I use it to Sous Vide. It works great for that. Set it up let it go & come back when you get hungry. I even let it go overnight.

We bought this thermal cooker to replace our old one we got from Asian market. The cooker inner unit is much thicker and the seal of outer unit is better too. And it is in perfect size for small family. We use it mostly to prepare Cantonese soup. Most of others are too large to finish in 2 dinners.
