MacReady
Helicopter pilot MacReady believes he’ll pass the long winter at the Antarctic research base in a haze of alcohol and computer chess. When the mysterious creature invades Outpost 31, however, MacReady will become his crewmates greatest hope for survival...and humanity’s only chance for salvation.
Dr. Blair
A biologist at the research station, Dr. Blair is the first person to grasp the terrible threat that the alien creature poses to humanity. Though his crewmates think that Dr. Blair’s response to this danger is insane, they soon realize that he didn’t go nearly far enough.
Childs
Though he initially dismisses the theories about the extraterrestrial creature as “voodoo,” Childs can’t deny the deadly reality for long. As the creature claims one victim after another, this hot-headed mechanic will become MacReady’s greatest ally in the battle to save humanity...if they don’t kill each other first.
Dr. Copper
The resident physician at Outpost 31, Dr. Copper discovers the grotesque remains of the alien creature while investigating the Norwegian camp. Though Dr. Copper hopes to discover more about the mysterious organism, he only finds an omen of his own grim fate.
Garry
The even-keeled commander of the research base, Garry attacks every problem with ruthless efficiency. Though his leadership has kept the desolate station together, Garry is helpless to defend his post against a threat that could be anyone he trusts...even himself!
Nauls
Whether he’s roller skating through the halls, or blasting music in the kitchen, Nauls brings some much-needed vitality and good cheer to the barren research station. When the creature invades the base, however, Nauls trades his jovial demeanor for a grim determination to survive.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 6, 2025Verified PurchaseHad to get this movie as we watch once a year.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 12, 2023Verified PurchaseIt's insane to see just how good this movie still looks today. Some of the practical special effects included look way better than anything you can see in movies made today. The movie itself is a very Among Us-situation, and it has the viewer (and characters) constantly paranoid and second-guessing who might or might not be the creature. 4K version of this movie looks really good, and the extras included talk a great deal about the making of the film, which is great for any fan.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 7, 2024Verified PurchaseThe 4k UHD blew my mind! SOOO. happy to own this physical copy of one of my favourite movies of all time! Grab it! You thank yourself over and over over the years when physical media becomes obsolete... :(
- Reviewed in Canada on October 1, 2024Verified PurchaseFirst order wouldn't play properly. Constant gltiching and freezing in multiple players and drives.
Disc looked perfect with no scratches or smudges. Still no good after cleaning disc.
Returned and had a replacement sent.
Replacement worked fine right out of the case.
Seems to be a thing with 4K discs from what I see in forums for physical media.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 11, 2024Verified PurchaseAmazing 4K transfer that makes special effects look great! John Carpenter’s masterpiece. With this quality, we’re able to see Keith David sweating with is coat while he’s waiting for the thing 😂 ! Never seen that on VHS even DVD 😉 For those who like this genre, I recommend. Classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandissimo film di Carpenter
Consigliatissimo.

5.0 out of 5 stars La obra maestra de Carpenter.
