- Reviewed in Canada on September 18, 2023Verified PurchaseAfter spending years on and off reading Stoicism from the horses mouths, namely Epictetus, Aurelius and Seneca, I was still prisoner of an impenetrable fog. How to apply their wisdom in my own life was a mystery, not knowing where to begin with. Then I read a few contemporaries trying to carry the essence of their teachings for us. Many did well but none made it completely clear. M. Farnsworth’s book was like a revelation. The way he penetrates straight through the very essence of stoicism and exposes it in a practical way, I haven’t seen anywhere else so far. This book is worth its weight in gold for anyone wishing to apply Stoicism to his/her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have
Verified PurchaseAn absolute joy to read!
Unlike other works, it doesn't adapt the translations(replacing he with something more neutral) and presents reasonable arguments in the last chapter.
The author doesn’t claim to be a philosopher, unlike many others, or a stoic for that matter.
This book explains the core principles of the stoic philosophy, what to expect from it, what not to expect, why the stoics didn't call themselves stoics and it's criticism.
Just buy this one and forget about other books on the same subject, this is all you need.
I also own The Daily Stoic however, I found this book more immersive and all-around better.
