The Plea: Eddie Flynn, Book 2
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
鶹
Fraud. Blackmail. Murder. It's all in a day's work for Eddie Flynn.
For years, major New York law firm Harland & Sinton has operated a massive global fraud. The FBI are on to them, but they need witnesses to secure their case.
When a major client of the firm, David Child, is arrested for murder, the FBI ask con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn to secure Child as his client and force him to testify against the firm. Eddie's not a man to be forced into representing a guilty client, but the FBI have incriminating files on Eddie's wife, Christine, and if Eddie won't play ball, she'll pay the price.
When Eddie meets David Child, he knows Child is innocent despite the overwhelming evidence against him. With the FBI putting pressure on him to secure the plea, Eddie must find a way to prove Child's innocence while keeping his wife out of danger - not just from the FBI but from the firm itself.

I often times picture Eddie being played by someone like Matthew McConaghy in an adaptation film!
- Reviewed in Canada on June 15, 2019Verified PurchaseAuthor, Steve Cavanagh, writes ingenious and unpredictable courtroom dramas which also contain propulsive, thrilling action away from the law court. This is the second book in the Eddie Flynn series, and I have now read them all out of sequence. Eddie is an appealing, original character. He used to be a con-man but now uses his skills as a defence lawyer. The plot encompasses gripping action and intriguing heroes, despicable villains, and those in the grey area in between. The plot is complicated and so suspenseful that I was riveted to the edge of my seat.
Child, a young tech billionaire is a client of a powerful law firm, Harlander and Sinton. The partners have been laundering dirty money from crime syndicates for their own enrichment. Child devised a security system for their financial dealings, and they have used it to hide the money trail which would show their theft of millions. Eddie’s wife works for the law firm and was deceptively and unknowingly made a pawn in their dirty schemes.
The young tech genius is being charged with the brutal murder of his girlfriend in his apartment and the evidence against him is overwhelming. A shady FBI agent demands that Eddie take over his case and to persuade him to plead guilty in return for a reduced charge and for leading them to the money laundering and theft within the law firm. The FBI agent threatens that unless Eddie follows these orders, Eddie’s wife will be implicated in the crooked dealings and go to prison for a long time.
On meeting Child, he is convinced that the young man is innocent and has been set up. The panicking young computer wiz insists he has never owned a gun and definitely did not commit murder. Security cameras show him entering the apartment with his girlfriend and no one else. The cameras show him leaving it shortly after gunshots are heard. Next, his car is involved in an accident and the police find the murder weapon inside his vehicle. Eddie has a gut feeling that Child is telling the truth when protesting his innocence and that the law partners want him dead. He is now faced with the dilemma of figuring out how to save both Child and his own beloved wife. This seems an impossible task. He also fears Child is not only in danger of going to prison for murder, but the law partners want him dead.
This well-paced thriller with its twists, cliffhanger moments, and well-drawn characters, was great entertainment throughout.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 6, 2019Verified PurchaseI'm a big fan of Steve Cavanagh's books. The Plea is the 2nd book about Eddie Flynn who was formally a con artist but changed careers as a defence attorney with the help of a New York Judge names Harry Ford. I'm about a 1/4 into the book and it's just amazing the amount of detail and backstory of each character and setting Cavanagh places as if you can picture everything that happening right in front of you. I hope those of you who come across his books enjoy it like I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Razor-sharp & Addicting!
Verified PurchaseThe Plea by Steve Cavanagh is the second installment in the gripping Eddie Flynn series, and it more than lives up to its predecessor, The Defense. This legal thriller is a masterclass in addictive storytelling, with a razor-sharp plot, twists at every turn, and characters you can’t help but root for.
The story centers around Eddie Flynn, a con-artist-turned-lawyer, who is thrust into a high-stakes case when the FBI coerces him into defending billionaire David Child. Child is accused of murder, but his conviction could expose a massive conspiracy involving the FBI and a corrupt law firm. Eddie has just a few days to unravel the truth, prove David’s innocence, and protect himself and his family from dangerous consequences.
Steve Cavanagh’s writing is undeniably compelling, with short chapters that beg you to keep turning the pages. I found myself saying, “Just one more chapter,” only to be shocked when it was suddenly 1 a.m. The pacing is relentless, the courtroom scenes are electric, and Eddie Flynn’s cleverness shines throughout.
The Plea exceeded all my expectations. I thought The Defense would be hard to top, but this installment not only matched its intensity but raised the stakes in every way. The ending was so satisfying I literally cheered out loud—a rare reaction for any book.
This is my third Steve Cavanagh novel, and I’m hooked on his ability to craft thrilling, unputdownable reads. The Eddie Flynn series has earned its spot on library waitlists for a reason—it’s that good.
I reserve five-star ratings for books that create an emotional connection, feature fully fleshed-out plotlines, and keep me engrossed from start to finish. The Plea delivered all of that and more. I can’t recommend it enough. Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Verified PurchaseThis book was excellent, extremely well written and brilliant in the way it held the reader’s attention all the way through. Eddie Flynn is a defence attorney who was previously a con artist, and he cleverly combines the tricks he learned to enable him to defend his clients and give the prosecution insurmountable problems. The other thing that Eddie Flynn seems to be very good at is getting into trouble. This is the second book in the series and I truly believed that his case in the first one was impossible to win. However, this case really tested his expertise and ability to be able to call on his friends for help. It was one of those situations where, just as you thought everything was going to work out fine and the excitement was winding down, so it all kicks off again and produces quite a few heart stopping moments. Right from the very first chapter, the pace is fast and events move on at frightening speed. The plot is well written and quite complex and the reader really has to try and keep up with the action as it races along. The author has an amazing imagination to be able to, not only dream up a plot like this, but to be able to put it all together in such an entertaining drama. The ending was no real surprise but it wrapped everything up and gave is a satisfactory finish, leaving me ready to get stuck into another adventure from this brilliant author.
