5.0 out of 5 stars Review of The Girl with golden heart
Reviewed in India on February 9, 2020

"The Girl with Golden Thoughts" will give you an essence of suspense with friendship. I really liked the story plot and I hat off to the author's imaginations. The best part of the story is its sequential events which will force you to think each time in a different direction. After certain events you would start thinking that Alisha and Nirjara had shaken their hands, but after sometimes you may end up believing that Bhaskar might be bluffing with Alisha and Vyom, or Vyom would cheat Alisha for Nirjara. So, these kind of questions may arise in your mind which is because of the storyline and the way it is conveyed so wisely.

All the characters have equal contribution to the story, be it anyone. I really liked its realistic ending unlike typical bollywood movies.

The strength of this book is its story. Initially the story moves in different directions, but at the end it merges into one and this way it holds its readers till the end. At the end of this book, a very strong and good message has also been conveyed to the society which was like a cherry on the top of the cake.

What all things I liked about the book:

As I have already discussed, its storyline.
It contains a very nice message at the end.
Language used in the book was very easy, author has used all common English word which use in general during any conversation which is also a plus point, but I found it a negative point as well(will discuss later).
Though the title was very unclear to me at first, but author has made it very clear in the book that why he had to use this kind of title.

What all things I disliked about it:

Some editing mistakes exists, like towards end Alisha was misprinted as Nirjara which was creating confusions while reading, though it was getting cleared in the next para, but it did create confusions.
Whenever I take a book for reading, I always look forward to learn something new and the same was for this book as well. i was expecting lesser known Hind words in it, but maybe author wanted to make it user friendly and probably this might be the reason that he has used English words like complete, Casanova as it is instead of its Hindi versions.

The stars above are rounded off.
    ======================
Recently I got a chance to read this Hindi Book - The Girl With Golden Thoughts.
It is the pen name of the female protagonist in the book. It is not a spoiler, by the way :)

The perks of being associated with a genuine review team which also share book reviews include getting exposed to some new talents. Everyone has to start from a point, with his/her first step. As it is said that "the voyage to the moon starts with a small step".

By the way, this is not the first book by Ashutosh Jogia (who is a doctor by academic degree and is associated with a Hospital in Gujarat), but definitely his first one in Hindi. His earlier endevours are in English.

Let us focus on what this book brings for us, because, no matter if it is the debutante work or a golden jubilee work of the author, what matters is, how well it is crafted, right?

    The Plot:
Let us take a bird's eye view of the book plot.

The exams at IIT, Delhi are just commenced and the student are feeling free. Most of them are hired by various companies during the campus interviews. Three of them are not hired by any company, though. And, they are not a bit affected! Because, their future path is already final. Both the boys have to join their family business as respective successors, and the girl is already in love with one of them, so sooner or later they are going to get married!

The life couldn't be more perfect for them!

So, they plan a trip to a hill-station, together. During this tour, they meet Nirjara and came to know that she is the famous columnist who write under the pen name "The Girl With Golden Thoughts".

How this meeting and its aftermath change the course of their lives is explored in the rest of the story.

    Views And Reviews:
I will try to keep as many spoilers as possible at bay, but, read with a consent that some of them are unavoidable.

The author is impressed with the writings of some popular commercial writers in both English and Hindi. The list includes Chetan Bhagat to Surendra Mohan Pathak. In short, the author's motto is to write for regular readers. It is like making commercial films, which we often refer to as masala films, where all possible ingredients of entertainment are weaved. More importantly, the focus is set on the entertainment quotient rather than the art quotient.

In this book also, the author used the day to day language. Rather than focusing more on the literary attributes, his focus is on the story. So, you will meet with some proofreading errors in the book, but, they don't affect the flow of the story.

The author has weaved a few twists and turns pretty nicely in the story and the mysterious segments are interesting too.

The characters are well developed. Rather than going for lectures about feminism or using slang or abusive language or profanity, the author has developed characters in a way where gender plays a neutral role.

I consider it a success for the author.

In addition to some witty lines and wisdom messages, the book has some fun moments too. It is during the normal communication such lines appear to bring a smile on your face.

The way political campaigning is weaved in the story is something not to be missed. It also adds contemporariness to the story.

I got the book when the promotion was running - for free.

    Summary:
I like reading the book and I am sure you will enjoy it too if you will focus more on the story and ints elements rather than linguistics. Of course, it has a scope for improvement. You should go ahead and buy it when a promotion is running, and you will not regret your decision.

The Girl with Golden Thoughts by Ashutosh Jogia is good short novel of romance, written in Hindi. I enjoyed the story since it was narrated from some different point of views and the kind of suspense it created always pushed me for more reading. I really liked the brilliance of that girl Nirjara on whom the entire novel based on.

3.0 out of 5 stars A romantic thriller!

Book Title: The Girl with Golden Thoughts
    Author: Ashutosh Jogia
    Format: Kindle

    Book Title:
The title of the book ' The Girl with Golden Thoughts ' is interesting and similar to Steig Larrson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

    Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is a young woman's face with blue eyes draped in a veil and she is looking elsewhere as if lost in thoughts. The image matches with the title.

    My review:
Sometimes reading books of languages other than English from a new age Indian author seems challenging. But if the story is written well, the book becomes a nice read. Such is the case with this book ' The Girl with Golden Thoughts '. Author Ashutosh whose work I happened to read for the first time, with his good narrative skills impressed me as a reader with this book.

Apart from friendship, romance, mystery, and regular drama, some elements point out social life and society's written values. This is where the author has gained brownie points.

After completing the exams, the three friends plan to visit a hill station. There they happen to meet another important character in the story. There starts a thriller of a series of incidents. What, how, and when happened is what the readers will get to taste.

    What I like:
    1. The plot-line
    2. The set-up of the story with graduates who are already successful. This made the story to run forward without any hassle.
    3. The character of Nirjara who bore the title after her columnist name.
    4. The unexpected twists that made the story feel interesting.

    What I didn't like:
    1. The story though seemed new, the casual language used loosened up the hook.
    2.  Few misprints created confusion
    3. The mere mention of IIT has no importance in the story. Maybe from a reader's point, I have expected a little action after it was mentioned IIT, Delhi.

    Characters:
There are three central characters and one important character in the story.  The three central characters being Alisha, Vyom, and Bhaskar are college graduates who studied IIT together. They on a holiday to meet a famous columnist Nirjara. The characters are crafted well and have enough space at every turn of the page.

    Narration:
The narration of the story is a plus point though the language used is not complex or the characters are sketched easily.

    Language & Grammar:
A very simple and colloquial language is used in the story. The conversations are very casual and are simple to interpret.

    My Final Verdict:
    A romantic thriller!

    Book Title: 3/5
    Book Cover: 3/5
    Plot: 3/5
    Characters: 3/5
    Narration: 3/5
    Language & Grammar:2/5
    Final Rating:3/5
