Great calculator, it arrived quickly and the packaging was not one of those nearly impossible to open so first impressions were good. The calculator feels light which I am not a big fan of, but I generally baby my calculators so it won't be an issue.

I am a professional, not a student, and I have similar calculators. I am not the biggest fan of the document-like approach for the calculator, and I'd rather have some of the more used functions with an assigned button rather than accessing them with menus (even trig functions) rather than the dedicated keypads with all letters.

The calculator is very fast and responsive, but the touchpad is slightly annoying to use. I also have the HP Prime, it's direct competitor in terms of features, and so far I enjoy the Prime a bit better; but I like the vector handling of the CX II better than the Prime, so I have both at my desk. The battery life is good, but I honestly wish I could also use conventional batteries like the older TI Nspire (non CX) did, to ensure this calculator will last me a lifetime (I still have both an HP 50G and a TI 89 Titanium purchased in 2005 and 2006 I believe, both working great).

Considering the TI 84 Plus CE is at this price range, I think the price of this calculator is very competitive. I'd recommend it over the TI 84 Plus CE, but not ovet the HP Prime. Eventually I plan to install KhiCAS on it, and see if I like it better, but as far as I know it's the 2nd best modern calculator out there, but this is subjective as I have seen people who love the document-like setup and the menus and cleaner looks vs a more conventional look. I will update this review after a few more months of usage

For a device that’s supposed to help with school, this is unacceptable. I don’t recommend this calculator at all, look for something more dependable.

While I prefer my HP Prime G2, this TI-Nspire CX II CAS has strengths of its own.

As far as raw capabilities are concerned, the HP Prime and TI-Nspire are almost equivalent. The HP Prime is a lot faster, it's more elegant, and it offers RPN (which for some, is a very big deal), but the TI-Nspire fires back with workspaces and the addition of the LUA programming language. If you're going to be doing a lot of programming right on the calculator, the full keyboard of the Nspire, while ridiculously small, is still better than switching alpha modes. However, it's a lot clumsier to reach specific functions on the Nspire. Almost everything hides behind a grid menu that you have to navigate with the arrow keys. There are almost never any hotkeys to help you. This makes it more awkward to perform long calculations than on most other calculators. The Nspire doesn't have a touchscreen, like the HP Prime, so you have to move a cursor using the touchpad or arrow keys, and it's very clumsy and slow. The Nspire has one mode for both numeric and symbolic calculations, while the HP Prime has a distinct mode for each. I expected to like having a single mode, but in practice, I prefer HP's approach of keeping them separate.

The Nspire is HUGE! It's a bit wider than most calculators, and a lot taller. This means that you'll need a case that can hold it. A case that's designed for the TI-84, for example, won't hold an Nspire. The HP Prime has the same problem.

Because it's overpowered, I would strongly recommend against getting this calculator for a high school student. Anyway, the CAS feature would disqualify it from being used in most exams and in some classes. But it is great for university students or professionals who still use calculators.

Would I recommend the TI-Nspire CX II CAS or the HP Prime G2? I have both and both are phenomenal. I prefer the HP Prime, but I wouldn't be any worse off if I had only one of the two. Get the one that you feel most comfortable with.

However, be aware that HP seems to be abandoning the calculator market that it dominated for a long time, while TI seems to be digging in. So, if I were to bet on which one will still be available in the future, I'd have to bet on TI. This may or may not matter to you, depending on how long you think you'll still be using a calculator.

I was trying to find a graphing calculator for an online calculus class that I was taking. The class went all the way from precalculus to Triple integrals, gradients, curl, divergence, Green's theorem, and so on. In doing the research online, it seemed that many if not most recommended checking out this Ti calculator. I got it and used it for the class. I was amazed at how easy it was to put in the nested integrals. It handles coordinate changes easily and has really good graphing capability. The bonus has been the online software that comes from Texas Instrument education website. It has a nice emulator or screen capture function. Really good help system and guidebook for functions. Excellent instrument and good replacement for my Ti Voyage 200 that crashed after 20 years.
