Purpose: The ignition coil tester is a professional tool for testing the performance of the ignition system. It is mainly used to diagnose the working status of the engine ignition coil, high-voltage wire, distributor and spark plug, and accurately diagnose and troubleshoot ignition problems of different models.
Troubleshooting ignition system faults/faults: The ignition coil tester determines whether the ignition system generates enough voltage (usually 15-30kV) to ignite the mixture by observing the color, length and stability of the spark. Weak sparks (such as red or short) may indicate aging of the ignition coil, leakage of the high-voltage wire or capacitor failure.
Troubleshooting ignition faults: The ignition coil tester can quickly locate the cause of misfire, such as carbon deposits on the spark plug, abnormal gap, and open circuit of the high-voltage wire. Verify whether the ignition coil output is normal to avoid misjudging other system problems (such as fuel injection)
Adjustable spark gap: The ignition coil tester has a built-in adjustable electrode (usually in the range of 5-25mm), which tests the maximum sparking ability of the ignition system under different loads by adjusting the gap length. For example: the larger the gap, the higher the required breakdown voltage. If the spark cannot be generated, it means that the ignition energy is insufficient.
Note: The ignition coil tester should preferably be a model with a scale ruler to facilitate accurate gap adjustment. Testers made of high-temperature resistant materials can adapt to the high temperature environment of the engine compartment. The rational use of the ignition coil tester can significantly improve the diagnostic efficiency of the ignition system and reduce the misjudgment rate. It is a practical device in automobile maintenance.
Applicable scenarios: The ignition coil tester is suitable for repair workshops to quickly diagnose ignition system faults; modify vehicles to verify the matching of high-performance ignition coils or spark plugs (such as turbocharged engines); it is also suitable for teaching demonstrations to show ignition principles and fault phenomena (such as spark plug breakdown and leakage)

Customers like the functionality and spark visibility of the electric circuit testing device. They mention it works well, helps see if their coils produce sparks, and is an essential tool for diagnosing no or intermittent sparks. However, some customers have reported that the product is poorly made and the body seems very sloppy.

Customers are dissatisfied with the build quality of the electric circuit testing device. They mention it's poorly made, has marginal manufacturing, and the body seems very sloppy.
"...thing I didn't like was that the threads on the shaft and the body seemed very sloppy, which, with a weak ignition system would only make matters..." Read more

"This product is poorly made. The adjust screw is very loose and doesn’t make reliable electrical contact which gives poor test results...." Read more
This tool is not high end, but it is an essential tool for diagnosing no or intermittent spark. It is mostly used for small engines, but has the ability to test HEI ignition sources also. The one thing I didn't like was that the threads on the shaft and the body seemed very sloppy, which, with a weak ignition system would only make matters worse. Fixed with a spring to keep things tight.
Why did you paint the screw adjuster it interferes with getting a ground. I had to clean the paint off the threads to get it to operate properly. Stop painting the threaded portion and the tip.
Works as advertised. Allows for adjusting to wider gap for testing ignition coil for example on outboard which was the primary purpose for buying. Happy with purchase.
