VM95 Series Conical Stereo Cartridge
The AT-VM95C, the new Audio-Technica entry model Conical cartridge will replace the legendary AT90 Series models such as AT91, AT91R and CN5625AL. Also, the AT-VM95C is a “budget” cartridge featuring a conical stylus, the compatibility in the range will allow to upgrade with any of the 4 other LP styli of the Series such as Elliptical, Elliptical Nude, Microlinear and Shibata.
Conical Bonded Stylus
The benefit of conical styli, even if the cartridge is "lean", is the ball surface of the stylus touches the groove of vinyl records precisely.
No Use of Nuts
VM95 Series cartridges features two M2.6 threaded inserts allowing the installation of the cartridge onto tonearm or removable headshell without the use of nuts. Each cartridge is provided with one pair of 8mm M2.6 screws, one pair of 11mm M2.6 screws and two plastic washers.

VM95 Series - Styli Compatibility
Every cartridge diamond stylus becomes worn after a period of play. Around 500 hours for a conical stylus, 300 hours for an Elliptical stylus, 1000 hours for a Microlinear stylus, and 800 hours for a Shibata stylus.
Our VM95 Series dual moving magnet cartridges can be used almost forever by replacing the interchangeable stylus. It is no longer necessary to purchase a complete cartridge when your diamond is worn out, you can simply buy the matching replacement stylus, but also enjoy the experience of upgrading your cartridge with a different stylus.
The six models of VM95 Series cartridges all use the same electromagnetic engine-body, therefore each of the six replacement styli are perfectly compatible.

AT-VM9E Series Compatibility with the AT-XP Series DJ Cartridges
- The electromagnetic engine-body of XP-Series, is fully compatible with all replacement styli of VM95 Series and will deliver more output voltage than VM95 Series cartridge. So providing improved compatibility with phono inputs of Professional DJ Mixers.
- VM95 Series electromagnetic engine-body is also compatible with the three replacement styli of the DJ cartridge AT-XP Series, nevertheless, the electromagnetic engine-body of XP-Series, will deliver more output voltage than VM95 Series cartridge in order to provide better compatibility with phono inputs of Professional DJ Mixers.
- Note that typical tracking force when using XP Series styli is three grams as opposed to two grams for VM95 Series styli.
- The suspension design and compliance of XP-Series styli have been optimized for intensive DJ’ing, including possible manual cueing and back-cueing.
- The VM95 Series suspension design and compliances of VM95 Series have been designed for optimum audiophile reproduction.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 27, 2023Verified PurchaseAs an enthusiast of vinyl collecting i must say that this very entry level stylus is definitely a gateway to greater things. The highs are decent, lows are so-so, BUT - the fact its so balanced across the board makes it a great starting point. I ordered the elliptical version right away (look for my upcoming review on that as well) just to compare it to my vintage Audio Technica cart/stylus combos. The fact the cartridge is used across the entire line of newer stylii is a no brainer. Just buy it. Even if your like me and have 3 amazing turntable setups with dozens of carts from all major brands. The price is super affordable. And the fact that 鶹 carries a plethora of turntable accessories these days only adds to the excitement of trying new things.
I honestly didn't expect much considering I use a Shibata stylus on one, a Shure on the other and a Nagaoka on my main. But its so easy to install and setup and perfect for newbies to upgrade from old stuff and give their turntables a more modern look and feel.

- Reviewed in Canada on April 1, 2023Verified PurchaseIt came quick and on time. Haven't installed it yet. It's a budget stylus and will suit my non audiophile collection of records just fine. Have had inexpensive cartridges from Audio Technica for decades and never disappointed.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 25, 2023Verified PurchaseI bought this to put on my turntable to sell. I wanted to sell the Rega, but keep my Denon cartridge, so I thought this was a cheap way to make the Rega fully functional for the sale. I've also been curious about this line of cartridges. I must say it sounds really nice. Balanced from top to bottom with a good soundstage. Surface noise is lower than expected and tracking is not bad for a conical tip. I think this is a better bet than putting some generic stylus on a vintage cartridge. You won't find a better solution for the money. Would love to hear the ML and Shibata styluses.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 15, 2020Verified PurchaseWhen you buy this you are buying a stylus ("needle") as well as the cartridge (mechanical thingy that holds the stylus and connects to your turntable head shell). This conical stylus is great value for what it is - a good sounding, low-budget conical stylus. If you're a casual listener, or if you sometimes play 45s, this is the stylus/cartridge combo you probably want. The cartridge is relatively easy to install, and installing/removing the stylus is very easy.
The cartridge is identical to the ones sold with some more expensive Audio-Technica styli so if you ever want to upgrade to better sound, you don't need to upgrade the cartridge as well, just buy a better stylus.
If you want better sound than this conical stylus (without breaking the bank) get the AT-VM95E stylus/cartridge combo which comes with an elliptical stylus that will sound more clear for only about $15-20 more. The catch is you should replace the elliptical stylus after 300 hours of play, but the conical stylus will last for 500 hours.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 26, 2023Verified PurchaseI did a comparison to a much more expensive Denon cartridge (think it cost around $170 USD) and could not tell any difference sound-wise, though I'm no audiophile lol. I have a pretty nice setup both for listening and sampling and have had nothing but good luck with these.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 11, 2024Verified PurchaseTried to install on my Lenco L75 record player. Unfortunately, the crews supplied were just a “tad” larger than the holes on the player head. Fortunately, I found a Shure stylus that fitted the one that I planned to replace. The subject cartridge appears to be a good one. However, be aware that there could be installation challenges. I would suggest to the supplier that they include varying options of screws to accommodate varying player models.
