Product description
The 35mm F/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 (Model F053) is a wide-angle, fixed focal lens suitable for just about every shooting situation. The 35mm focal length is wide angle-of-view, but natural perspective and field-of-view for instinctive image capture. The lens is great for many different types of photography, including portraits with context, food photography, and nature. Very light in weight and compact, it hardly adds anything to the heft to your bag, so you can carry it comfortably every day. Focusing as close as 0.15m (5.9 in), you can fill the frame with even small subjects. In addition to the F/2.8 aperture, the Model F053 is constructed using special glass materials including LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements effectively arranged to quash aberrations. The Model F053 provides outstanding optical performance across the entire frame, and delivers a sharp image, right down to the texture of the subject. With Moisture-Resistant Construction and dirt-resistant Fluorine Coating, photographers can shoot confidently outdoors. You will discover beauty that you have never experienced before. This lens may lead you to new discoveries.

From the manufacturer
Every day, every subject – take a wider look at the world

Get closer to your subject. As close as 0.15m.

One of the key features that makes this lens so exciting is its amazing ability to shoot close-ups. With this lens, you can get closer to an object than you’d ever imagined. At the 0.15m (5.9 in) MOD (Minimum Object Distance), the lens achieves its maximum magnification ratio of 1:2. You’ll never again be frustrated because you cannot get close to an object while shooting. This remarkable performance allows users to create compositions that exploit dramatic perspective (closer subjects are larger, and distant ones are smaller) and that are unique to wide-angle lenses. By getting close to an object, you can produce a one-of-a-kind photo and leverage the beautifully blurred background bokeh.

The ideal lens for everyday use and rapid, sharp candids
This lens provides outstanding optical performance and overall image quality, characteristics relentlessly demanded from a prime, fixed focal lens. The expert arrangement of the LD and GM specialized glass elements greatly controls aberrations, including chromatic aberrations. Tamron’s proprietary BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating reduces ghosting and flare, which can otherwise occur when taking a photo against the sun. Moreover, leveraging your camera body’s features* it delivers, throughout the frame, high resolution performance that maximizes the benefits of the latest high-megapixel cameras. *When shooting with the camera’s lens correction function enabled.
The extreme portability enhances the limitless versatility of the lens
Take it with you anywhere. This lens travels as well as it performs. And because it’s matched to lightweight full-frame mirrorless cameras, your entire system becomes light, fast and nimble. It has a very compact body, weighing just 210g (7.4 oz) and an overall length of 64mm (2.5 in). It’s comfortably portable, highly maneuverable and amazingly easy to use and compose. Because the overall length does not change when focusing, you can get as close to an object as you need to without fear of accidentally bumping the front element. The lens has the same 67mm filter diameter as the other members of the series of Tamron high-speed lenses for Sony E-mount cameras. So you can swap filters (like polarizers), lens caps and other accessories for convenience. Who says great things can’t come in small packages?

- Reviewed in Canada on November 20, 2024Verified PurchasePROS: Great image quality - everything looks super smooth, while being sharp enough. Focal length is perfect on APS-C (~55mm). Surprisingly close minimum focus distance. Silent AF. Weather sealed. Lightweight, especially for the size.
CONS: Big filter size (67mm) = expensive filters. The focus ring truly sucks. The gasket on the mount means some finesse is needed for install/removal.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 16, 2024Verified PurchaseThe lens is very sharp, even wide open. Additionally, the lens has an impressive 1:2 semi-macro capability, allowing for close-up photography of subjects at very short distances. This is particularly useful for capturing intricate details and small objects.
In terms of build quality, this lens excels despite its primarily plastic construction. The lightweight nature of the product is a significant advantage when it comes to using it on a Sony full frame camera. The reduced weight allows for enhanced comfort and maneuverability, making the user experience a joy.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 7, 2021Verified PurchaseThis lens is a good lens optically, it's well enough made. I like that it's small, light and weather resistant. 35mm is a comfortable focal length and the ability to close focus makes this a great lens. And its price.
The fly in the ointment is its autofocus - on a Sony A7R2 it's slow, a bit noisy, clunky and sometimes just won't go there. Under Sony's DMF or MF it is good and using AF-C it seems be a better performer. I didn't think I would care about slower autofocus than other lenses (and I don't shoot video), but it's not awesome. You should be aware that's all - it's not a deal breaker, especially at this price.
So the autofocus is from the 1990's, the build and optical performance is 2020's. The price is great, warrantee great, if you accept the autofocus. I still rate the lens at 4 stars overall. If I could give 4.5 I would have.
I imagine the slow, clunky autofocus is less of an issue in Tamron's 20 and 24mm stablemates.
Remember this is low price lens. It outperforms it price by more than a little.

- Reviewed in Canada on April 16, 2023Verified PurchaseThings I love
Small and decently light
Doesn’t break the bank
Very clear prime lens
Things I don’t like
Autofocus does struggle sometimes (1 in 15 shots)
The lens is pretty loud in a quiet environment
The included lens hood does an OK job
All in all I have attached a photo that was taken with this lens paired with an A7RIII and it’s amazing the detail it gets for the price. I’d buy it again and again.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 11, 2022Verified PurchaseFor the budget? Definitely a winner. Love the lightweight material. Solid build, and great image. I'm sure there's better makes for this size, but Tamron knows how to do the right things for a lower price. I'm a long time Tamron user now, and still will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Photography
Verified PurchaseI have just purchased this lens as I wanted a cheap 35mm for occasional use. A lot of people complain about the auto focus being slow, this might be the case if you want it for video work (I never shot video ), but for stills it is more than adequate. The quality of the images and the sharpness is excellent with the added bonus of very close focusing. I have tried it on my Sony A1 and Sony A7cr with excellent results and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible image quality, old school AF, great price
Verified PurchaseAmazing sharpness and smooth bokeh at all apertures. Autofocus as if it was an older generation lens, noisey, slower, but good enough to capture my kids running at the camera and macro of flowers getting blown around by the wind. Looses track and racks focus too often.
Still giving it 5 stars for the best image quality of any f2.8 35mm lens on e mount while having decent AF and incredibly cheap price. No chromatic aberrations, super sharp even wide open and smooth out of focus areas at all apertures...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lente maravilloso a buen precio

5.0 out of 5 stars very nice lens, and reliable service from 鶹
Verified PurchaseI'm using this lens on my full frame Sony A7CII and I'm getting good results in still photography, I don't use video so have no comments until now.
The focus is very good, however a bit slow with macro shots as it struggle a bit, however when selected single AF point it solved.
