Product description
Designed for Sony mirrorless cameras, this groundbreaking wide-angle zoom covers ultra wide-angle to standard focal lengths with a constant F4 aperture and is ideal for both still photography and video recording. It achieves excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range, with crispness from edge-to-edge. The lens also incorporates TAMRON's VXD linear motor focus mechanism for superior quietness and agile performance and achieves high-speed and high-precision autofocus. The physical length of the lens does not change while zooming. It’s the perfect lens for taking still photos and is also ideal for video shooting, in part since it’s easy to balance even when attached to a gimbal stabilizer or other equipment. The excellent close-range shooting performance provides an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5") at the wide end and 0.3m (11.8") at the tele end. The ideal “walk around” lens, the new TAMRON 17-50mm F4 offers great portability and convenience and makes it possible to shoot a variety of still and video content, from sweeping landscapes to snapshots, all without switching lenses

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Verified PurchaseFast auto focus - sharp photos - lightweight - internal zoom! Love this lens and focal length is great for an all around lens. Being able to take portraits one day and landscape the next without switching lenses - love it! Yes it’s f4 but for landscape you are usually shooting at f8-f11. Portraits certainly can look nice at f2.8 - however, at f4 more of the subject will be in focus. Just depends on your style :). Anyways great quality and perfect value for the money at $549.
RudyExcellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing lens
Verified PurchaseThis lens fits my needs at an amazing price. F4 is plenty good for subject and background separation. In the world that we live in now, it's difficult to get a bad camera or lens. Light weight, affordable, and internal zoom for less then 600 bucks!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great affordable lens
Verified PurchasePros: The zoom range does it all. From wide angle to a mid telephoto, it has great versatility. It's compact and light weight. It feels premium despite being made primarily of plastic.
Middle: internal zoom, sortve. If you look inside, you can see that it is not fully sealed for internal zooming. Recommend using a filter to keep dust from getting in.
Cons: lowlight performance is not that great. It was not sharp on the edges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel lens
Verified PurchaseThis is a great travel lens. I pair this with a Sony FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II and a 2x teleconverter on my Sony A74 which gives me 17-400 mm with two compact and lightweight lens.
I have travelled with a 24-70 but find it much too narrow for landscape shots. I've also travelled with a 16-35 but find I end up switching lenses way too often to get more reach. The 17-50 is perfect!
Some reviewers say the corners are soft. But for me the corners plenty sharp. Besides I don't often need sharp corners on landscape or environmental portrait travel shots.
