This is one amazing "laser". I'm told there may be some question regarding its legality. It's SUPER bright. At night it can send a green pinpoint of light for half a kilometer or more. I bought it because I was told it could help discourage crows - which are on the verge of infesting our neighborhood. It actually seems to work!

Unscrew the cap on the end to lose the multi point deal. Don't let kids near it. Don't shine it in anyone's eyes.

Bought for my boys Ruckus and Tumble bc cats see green, yellow and purple very well but not not red. They see it alright! It lights up an area like a thin green flashlight, you can even see the actual beam in a dimly lit room. The single dot is a big fat one, not like most tiny dots from the typical dollar store red laser lights. It says on the label that it's under 5mw though I think it might be pushing a bit more. It didn't get hot in my hand after 2 mins of sustained on-ness, during which I was admittedly captivated by the shifting patterning attachment while the cats were positively mesmerized. From a distance though, the light is so bright that they were squinting at the dot and looking to me as if to ask "why is the light so spicy?"
I imagine this to be an invaluable tool in the pocket of a lecture hall professor or some other person who likes to point at things and would do so more if it weren't for their too-short arms that get tired too quickly. As for me, I'd rather not accidentally blind my poor house panthers so I will, sadly, be returning this. 4 stars instead of 5 not for the light being too powerful but because the pattern attachment can very easily be lost and the little safety clip over the button is pretty flimsy.

This laser is ILLEGAL and a SEVERE HAZARD

This product is ILLEGAL to sell and a SEVERE HAZARD. The power of the laser it uses (75 or so milliwatts) far exceeds the 5 milliwatt maximum regulated by US law, which is already 5 times more than the 1 milliwatt limit that my country (and many others) sets. Even that can cause permanent damage to eyes if pointed at a creature's face. If the light from this pointer hits anyone's or anything's eye for even fractions of a second, they are almost certainly going to receive permanent eye damage. It's possible to permanently blind people with this thing. The seller is skirting the law by insinuating that the diffraction grating splits the laser into many different laser points, each below the legal laser power limit. However, the advertising also clearly instructs the user to remove the diffraction grating if you want to use it as a laser pointer, which you would *have* to do to indicate a single point with it, entirely negating the relative "safety" of splitting the light beam. Furthermore, this posting advertises that you can use it to entertain pets. If you use this laser pointer around a pet, you will almost certainly cause lasting harm to your pet's vision. They have no way of knowing not to look at the light. In no part of this product's description was I warned that the laser pointer was any more dangerous than a normal laser pointer. I wanted to buy a combination laser pointer and flashlight, not a WEAPON. It warns users not to point the light at people's faces, but that's standard on any laser pointer. I am extremely disappointed. If I want to use this laser, I have to instruct everyone around me how dangerous it is first and how to be safe around it. Luckily, it is not illegal to use this laser pointer for its "intended" use in the comfort of my home. It *is* however quite illegal to sell it, especially to unsuspecting customers like me.

Although very bright and powerful, this laser sometimes spontaneously stops working. At first I thought it was just out of charge but it also happens after a fresh charge. Tried every conceivable way to adjust variables like pressing the button at a different angle, twisting the lens, whatever. Bottom line is it just sometimes stops working. And then starts working again after a bit. No rhyme or reason that I can figure out.
