Q&A

1. Can the UB400 support more than one device at a time? Yes, the Bluetooth adapter can support up to 7 devices at a time.

2.What operating systems are compatible with the UB400? Current supported operating systems include Windows 10/8.1/8/7/XP, driver needed for WIndows 7/XP. Does not support Mac OS and Linux.

3. How do I install the driver for Windows 7 and XP? To install the driver, visit the TP-Link website, search “UB400” and download the driver in the "Support" section. Open file "UB400_Driver.zip", click through the following “Windows” file and click on “setup.exe” and finish the installation.

Note: Due to Windows OS limitations, if your PC has a built-in Bluetooth adapter, it will need to be disabled first in order for system to recognize UB400.

4. How do I connect to PS4 controller? Try 2 things, 1) Unpair the controller from your play station. 2) Hook the controller to your computer via the USB cable and then hit the PS Button. Once the controller is detected you can disconnect the usb charging cable.

5. What is A2DP and EDR technology? A2DP, a Bluetooth standard that allows for high-quality audio streaming when using Bluetooth enabled devices. EDR, Enhanced Data Rate, is a Bluetooth specification that provides faster data rates.

6. Can UB400 be used on TV? No, UB400 is not compatible with TV.

7. How to pair PC and PS4 controller using UB400? Before connecting your PS4TM controller with PC using UB400, make sure you install the application RemotePlayInstaller.exe for Remote Play.

When my old laptop's bluetooth transmitter failed, I purchased one of these to continue using my bluetooth earbuds. Functionally, it fits the bill, and is way cheaper than most of the alternatives. That said, it has a noticeably shorter range than the already-weak transmitter that my laptop had, so I tend to have to cart it around a bit more than I used to while doing chores around the house. The range generally holds up to fifteen or twenty feet with no obstructions between the transmitter and receiver, but I've noticed that the signal can get spotty even when you're as close as five feet depending on your position and orientation. It also seems to have a little more latency than what I used to, though that might be due to the older generation USB ports on the laptop. If you're watching a show and watching someone's mouth as they speak, you might notice the same thing, and it probably isn't ideal for gaming, either. For those two use cases, I may recommend a different option, but I'm doing fine with my music and podcasts.

I've also tested them with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Functionally, they work fine up to about 15 feet. Any further than that and it starts to get a bit squirrely, often repeating keystrokes indefinitely until the keyboard is moved back into range. The keyboard in question is equally cheap, however, so you may have better luck with it if you have a more robust model than I do.

Still, it's better than having wires going everywhere, and I wound up buying a second one for an old desktop that had no prior bluetooth functionality.
