Great quality and practical switch!
I installed this switch in our washroom as we always forget to close the washroom exhaust fan which led not only unnecessary energy consumption but the bigger issue, that is in winter months exhaust fans throw heat out of the house and ultimately puts more pressure on furnace to keep-on heating the house. The size of the switch is acceptable, and it fitted comfortably in standard wall electrical box (see attached photos) however did not leave lot of space around but I was able to tug Hot and Neutral wiring connectors properly. Installation was straightforward and properly laid out in instruction manual. It comes with all the accessories needed except piece of 12/14 AWG wire pieces for Load, Hot, Neutral and ground wire connections inside wall electrical box. Note that this switch by default set to Mode-1 meaning “Blue LED present near to the button will flash twice once pressed indicating that particular timing option is set and then goes off” but for a new person there is no indication what was set as all LEDs are off. As I was not aware so I got confused after noticing this LED behavior however when I checked instruction I got to know about Mode-2. I needed to press 5min and 10min buttons together for 5sec until I see all lights flashing to set LED indication to Mode-2. In Mode-2 LED stays ON for the period of entire time based on option selected, so if I select 5min option LED beside 5min button will stay on till timer ends and device turns off… this make more sense to me, so I kept Mode-2. Also, switch has Stay-on feature also, just press the big button for 8 seconds (little longer time but not a big deal) and load will stay on until you press big button again to turn it off. Pros: + Super quality switch - switch feels solid quality after touching + Size is perfect – not too big not too small, most importantly fits inside standard electrical box okay + Fits with any standard decorator wall plate + Great preset countdown time options - 5, 10, 30 or 60 mins, 2 or 4 hrs + Multiple time settings for flexibility + Easy to install with clear instructions + Modern design and looks great + Energy saving solution + Good load capacity – 15A, 1200W + Convenient + Reasonably priced- considering 2 switched in package + Great value for money Cons; Nothing identified yet. Nice option for bath fan timer, but does require a neutral wire in the box
I think bathroom fans are a necessity, but they never work well if you turn them off right after you flush the toilet or turn off the shower and leave the bathroom. They need time to do their job, so they need to run for a period of time after the bathroom is used. Which in a lot of situations means that the fan is turned on and runs for a long time before someone remembers to turn it off. That's why I always install timer switches like these on bathroom fans. This timer does require a neutral wire connection, but the company does sell a similar switch to this one that doesn't require a neutral if you don't have one in your switch location. The only difference that I can tell is that this one gives you the option of having the blue light next to the time selected remain lit up while the power is on (but it turns off once the timer period is up).
I appreciate that this is UL listed--a key requirement in my book for anything line voltage related that I install in my house. I also like that this timer switch has easy to use straight in wire clamps, rather than terminals that require a loop in the conductors--it's quicker and more secure in my opinion.
My only nit to pick is that the labels on the timer buttons aren't quite centered vertically or horizontally on the buttons. It's not horrible, but I wish they'd been a little more precise in the placement since in the product listing photos, the labels are nicely centered.
