    I just hired a new lawn care specialist and one of the first things he noted is that I've been over watering our yard for years. He recommended getting a rain gauge to monitor weekly water levels from rain and then supplementing my watering schedule. What I like about the Taylor Jumbo Jr Gauge is that how easy it is to read the water level from indoors (it has a red float and large digits). Just be sure to take the gauge and its mount indoors during cold winter months as the cold can easily make the plastic brittle and subject to cracking. Reinstall it in the Spring and you're back in business. Be sure to follow the directions to mount it away from your house and away from overhanging trees so you can acquire an accurate capture and reading of rainfall. I have mine mounted high on my back fence, but it also comes with a spike as an alternate way for mounting it in the ground. A ground mounted gauge could also be a great monitor--if placed properly--for your sprinkler system in addition to rainfall. Nothing flashy, but it is highly functional. It takes all the guess work out of how much water my yard is actually getting each week. That's H2kn0w.

    I like the fact that I can read the gauge from a distance of about 20’ (+/- vision varies obviously) with the bright colored numbers and water level ring. This replaced my old gauge due to the color fading after several years of use though still quite serviceable. And the bottom of the gauge unscrews so that the tube can be cleaned, a real PLUS!!!
