Excellent quality and a beautiful sturdy knife
5 out of 5 stars
Excellent quality and a beautiful sturdy knife
Perfect athame for my Altar and rituals Exactly and more than I hoped for. I even engraved my Craft name on it, in English and in the Seax-Wica alphabet to make it more personable which is recommended by the Wiccan religion. So I am super happy with this athame and I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful heavy sturdy sharp knife. Well worth the money and more. The holder is great quality too. And will come in handy after the athame is consecrated and I have to wear it on me for 24 hrs. So that's going to truly come in handy

This dagger is made of high quality materials, and it shows that a lot of hard work has been put into crafting and assembling both the dagger itself and the sheathe. This is is a dagger that you could carry and use for a very long time without showing signs of wear. It comes with a very sharpened point, well fitted brass crossgaurds and pommel. The wood is high quality, and comes well polished. The sheathe is of good quality leather and the stitching is that of an adept tailor. I highly recommend this dagger for both beginners and experienced enthusiasts. This will be my carry.

The Sheat is made with good quality leather. The pommel and guard are not of premium quality but they still feed good in the hand and none of the parts is loose. The blade itself is not perfectly symetrical but I expected worst for the price.
The steel itself is not great but it is still a 21th century nickel-chrome steel, on which you can put a good and resilient edge. This is not a carbon steel.

This is a good quality/price compromise. If you are looking for a cheap and effective dagger.

Unfortunately it took a very long time to ship but also when it arrived it has a very slight warp in the blade it's also a little bit too thin for my liking the handle is a little small but then again I have rather large hands the handle itself as nice as well as the butt unfortunately the guard is not very well put together you can see pretty significantly gaps through the area between the blade and the guard and the final thing is that the tang looks horrible from what I can see the tang gets so squished to the point where I'm pretty confident that I could break the blade with my bare hands without too much of a struggle therefore I wouldn't really recommend it except for maybe a blade that you just put on the Shelf on top of a stand the sheath isn't too bad though

The Blade, Pummel, and Grip are all very good I quite like it. The sheath has a bit of a oil on it that needs to be worked in. But the guard is really bad. It isn't straight... and based on other pictures non of them are... it is a flat out defect in all of them. The guard isn't even symmetrical.

I can live with it... but if the guard were even slightly better quality this would be exceptional the Guard leaves it feeling really meh as a product. Not so bad that I would return it... but poor enough that if more people talked about how poor the guard is I wouldn't have got it.

Really nice and pointy; it has a beautiful handle and its well put together with a nice weight to it. Its very pointy but definitely not sharpened, so if your looking to use it for camping youll need a good stone sharpening kit cus the edge needs some work.

Was looking for a simple Athame and this was perfect. The handle on mine was more of a light black stain (then the chestnut in the photo) allowing the wood texture to show through. It's a nice weight and size, and feels pretty solid. The sheath is embossed leather and the stitching is well done, there is a small stamp on the blade (made in Pakistan) all in all its a great knife for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made, sharp and Inexpensive Dagger & Sheath for a medium or small hand
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2018
    Verified Purchase
Mine came as pictured and described. Not sure why others complain about theirs not being sharp, etc. Mine came with a decent edge. Out of curiosity I did sharpen mine and it took a very good edge for an inexpensive stainless. Besides, at this price I was not expecting a 'high quality' dagger. I bought this to use in a display and was pleasantly surprised to find it's a solid, well made knife & sheath. At this price I would not expect it to hold up to a lot of actual use (but who knows?) [For the person complaining about the "Stainless Pakistan" markings being too close to the blade edge, It's fine on mine. You might consider watching some videos on properly sharpening a knife as mine is marked a good 1/8" from where the 'edge' starts. Also, just buff the marking off. It's just a surface stamp and not engraved or truly etched in the blade.]
The sheath was also a pleasant surprise except for the strap. At this price I expected it to be junk. It appears to be well made with decent double stitching and a pleasant pattern stamped on the front. The strap to hold the handle is too short to fit around the knife handle on mine. From the length of the leather strap, it appears the snap was incorrectly placed. Since I'm not planning on using it, I don't care. If you're handy and do leather work, the snap could be easily relocated to the correct length.
The knife handle is a little short. If you have a large wide hand you may find you're holding the pommel on the outer edge of your palm, not butted up against the side of your palm where it belongs. The hand guard is also a little small if you have larger hands/fingers. In my hand, the down turned part of the cross guard (facing your hand) is small with sharp edges which digs in to my index finger. If I had to make a serious thrust into a hard object, it would be uncomfortable. Then again, if you're seriously planning on using a knife like this "for real", I suggest you spend a lot more money and get a better quality knife. (Gerber made an excellent Mark I dagger which I used in the military in actual combat. FWIW I'm not a 'fan' of the Mark II because it has a double serrated blade. To each his own.)
In summation: This is a great deal for $13+. Overall it's a well made knife and sheath for a very low price. It is made for a 'medium' or 'small' hand. If you have a large hand, don't expect this to be comfortable. If you seriously think you will use this knife, Spend More Money on a better quality knife! As a jump instructor once ask/told me about buying a jump helmet, "What's your life worth? . . . $20.00 or $300.00, spend what your life is worth."

5.0 out of 5 stars Best medieval EDC dagger in its price range, IMO
Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2025

Super happy with this purchase. I wanted a dagger that would fit the bill for a 'medieval every-day-carry', more intended for utility purposes, eating, carving, cutting etc - but able to function for self defense as well. This seems to be perfect for that use case scenario. The included scabbard is actually decent quality as well, not like the super cheap flappy ones commonly seen coupled with other similarly priced daggers. The point is extremely pointy, and the edges, while not razor sharp, are reasonably sharp from the factory, with razor sharpness easily attainable with a few minutes on a whetstone coupled with a bit of stropping. I can't speak to the edge durability, as I haven't had it for very long - I will update this review in a few months time.

4.0 out of 5 stars I used gorilla super glue gel

TG the word "Pakistan"is so close to the edge, it vanished on first sharpening. I fixed the only real issue, the loop where the band w the snaps to hold the dagger in place is going under is very thin and barely 3/8" . I used gorilla super glue gel, cut a piece of leather the withd of the belt loop from top to 1/2 " inside the shealt making it thikker and stopping the snap loop from rotating. Dyed it black(just kiwi liquid scuff touch up and a bit of polish. The fake wood handle is realistic enough, eazy to scribe and the whole dagger is very wel balance if you like trowing, the brass part polish nicely..All and all , the best of its kind for the price.

Perfect basic athame. Great weight, tang is all the way through the handle. If you want it sharp you'll have to do that yourself but the tip is sharp. Sheath is not great quality leather but it looks nice and does it's job of protecting the blade and you! Only bit I dislike is that Pakistan is engaved on the blade in small letters. Very nice product, especially for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Affordable Dagger
Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2016

This is a nice dagger for the price. It has a handle that looks more like wood than bone, but the wood looks nice and has a good feel, so I like it as is. It is not really sharp compared to other SZCO knives I own, but I plan to sharpen it anyway and that has been the case with other brands in this price range too. That should not discourage you from purchasing it IMO. The blade is nice and(as was said in another review) it is stamped made in Pakistan on the stainless steel blade. I buffed it out to a point it is only barely visible at certain angles and I may buff it out altogether in the coming days. It feels good and looks good too. I am pleased with this purchase and recommend it without reservations...
