Gloria Swanson, as Norma Desmond, an aging silent-film queen, and William Holden, as the struggling young screenwriter who is held in thrall by her madness, created two of the screen's most memorable characters in "Sunset Boulevard." Winner of three Academy Awards, director Billy Wilder's powerful orchestration of the bizarre tale is a true cinematic classic. From the unforgettable opening sequence -- a body found floating in a decayed mansion's swimming pool -- through the inevitable unfolding of tragic destiny, "Sunset Boulevard" is the definitive statement on the dark and desperate side of Hollywood. Erich von Stroheim as Desmond's discoverer, ex-husband and butler, and Nancy Olson as the bright spot amidst unrelenting ominousness, are equally celebrated for their masterful performances.

My copy hasn't shipped as of yet but everything I have heard and read from friends who love the movie as much as I do tell me I'm going to be floored by the quality of the blu-ray transfer. And I thought the DVD was great!!!!!!! I can't wait to get this at my door.
The movie still stands as one of the great masterworks of Hollywood cinema, written and directed by the brilliant Billy Wilder. Great performances all!!!!! Gloria Swanson's "Norma" is one of the screens greatest characters ever written. It's a rather unique and amazing performance which sure can be funny at times........but at the same time one can't feel some compassion for her as well. Perhaps the most genius stroke of the film is that it satirizes and almost eviscerates Hollywood. For those days that was an incredibly daring thing to do and Wilder pulls it off in spades with such panache and style you don't dare touch the pause button.Great, great film.
This classic only gets better with each viewing. Great acting, great story of getting old and what we lose in the process. Good quality and good features.
