About this item
- EASY TO USE: Objects that eclipse the sun’s light will show up in white, with the rest of the paper turning a vibrant Prussian Blue. Place a fern, flower, or other object on the special paper and set it in the sun briefly. Then rinse the paper in water and watch as a beautiful long-lasting image appears!
- HANDS-ON FUN: Sunprinting is a great hands-on activity to do with groups. Whether it be in the classroom, in a camp, a museum workshop, birthday party or any other group setting, get people together, share ideas and play
- VERSATILE: Layering techniques, motion, and manipulation of the paper itself are all implements in the Sunprinter’s toolbox. Make prints of physical objects or transfer digital images via transparency sheet
- ART WITH THE POWER OF THE SUN: Sunprinting is based on the cyanotype process, which has been used by artists since its development in the 19th century
- SUN-BASED SCIENCE: Sunprint paper can be used as a scientific tool. Its sensitivity to ultra-violet light lends itself to sun-based investigations. It can also be used as a measuring tool for any other UV light source, or as a photographic medium to use in scientific experiments

Product description
The History of Sunprint
Since 1975, the Sunprint Kit has provided fun, learning, and creative stimulation for the curious of all ages. Originally developed as a teaching tool by educators at the Lawrence Hall of Science on the UC Berkeley campus. All proceeds from the sale of Sunprint Kits continue to aid our mission to inspire and foster the learning of science and mathematics for all.
The SunPrint Solar Paper lets you make beautiful pictures by placing objects on the paper and exposing it to the sun. The paper undergoes a chemical change when exposed to sunlight. Save the print by soaking in water then drying. The Sunprint paper can be used for a creative, solar art project. With this paper you can also demonstrate UV blocking sunscreen by smearing sunscreen on plexiglass and exposing the paper to the sun. Use different strengths of sunscreen and see how the image has changed.
Sunprints encourage an interest in the photographic process using only sun, water, and a bit of imagination.
Place a fern, flower, or other object on the special paper and set it in the sun briefly. Then rinse the paper in water and watch as a beautiful long-lasting image appears!
The Super Sunprint Kit contains 15 8″x12″ sheets and one acrylic overlay.

- Reviewed in Canada on March 26, 2023I was given this kit when I was 10 years old and still think of the weird fun I had making images in the bright blue and white.
Just a note to say that this form of photography, I think, is called cyanotype and was invented in the 1840s in England. If you'd like to see some of the first experiments with cyanotype in the wilds, Google English botanist Anna Atkins. :)
- Reviewed in Canada on September 9, 2023Verified PurchaseI was expecting to get a product that was fine art quality, the paper was a little thin. It works exactly as described and it would be great as a fun little summer activity for your kids (maybe take it on a camping trip and make botanical prints). It's great because it comes with a plexiglass sheet to make prints with so all you need is objects to put on the paper!
- Reviewed in Canada on February 14, 2024Verified PurchaseQuality materials that are fun to experiment with. The instructions are very straight forward so this might be a great teaching tool for younger children or even a new medium to incorporate into your art. It comes in the original packaging from UCAL in 1975 which is a really cool touch.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 20, 2022Verified PurchaseEasy to use and lots of fun, even for beginners. The colour provides great contrast and we're having fun experimenting with this medium.
