- Reviewed in Canada on January 21, 2023Verified PurchaseAlthough I think Belle (also by Mamoru Hosoda) does a better job with creating a realistic way to integrate with virtual reality (a device that seems to connect to your brain, vs. using laptops and cell phones in Summer Wars), I greatly enjoy the characters and family dynamic in Summer Wars, and the escalation of events really pulls me in. After re-watching it a few months ago I realized it was a great comfort food movie for me, so I'm happy to have it on my shelf!

Reviewed in Canada on September 20, 2019Verified PurchaseJ'ai bien aimé ce film!
- Reviewed in Canada on February 15, 2020Verified PurchaseHonestly I ordered this movie and didn’t know what to expect. I got hooked off the trailer. After watching it multiple times it is definitely a wholesome and good anime movie.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 16, 2018Verified PurchaseI don't know what it is about this movie but the way it wove together themes of technological innovation, ancient traditions, love, family, communication and the triumph of intelligence all within a tight teenage love story blew my freaking mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Originalità che profuma d'Oriente
Complimenti!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Steelbook, 4k is a small but welcome upgrade
Verified PurchaseI won’t comment on the movie, that’s not why you came to the 鶹 review section is it?
I got the 4K Steelbook. The background of the artwork is shiny brushed aluminum which doesn’t really come across in the product listing or even customer photos. It’s great.
The 4k upscale of the 1280x720 source doesn’t offer much additional clarity to the image but it is better than blu-ray.
The HDR10 metadata says there’s a maximum content light level a]of about 1380 nits and average content light level of 287 nits. It’s definitely not an aggressive grade even in the OZ scenes but it is doing *something*.
This and other HDR graded anime movies like Belle, Your Name and Weathering With You all come across dimmer than their SDR Blu-ray transfers. While they are technically correctly mastered, your TV’s tonemapping and limiters are likely to give this result.
While I think it’s actually fine once you get used to it, ann effective workaround if you’re bothered by it is to turn on your TV’s “Active/Dynamic Tonemapping” setting. I found that to result in very similar overall brightness to the Blu-ray while being a touch punchier too.
I’ll just say it’s worth getting the Steelbook, even if you don’t have a 4k player and stick with the included blu-ray.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hermosa película!
